If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my car for about 2 years now, bought it at around 50k miles and currently have 65k. It is a 2009 4.6 with tech package. So far I have just done 2 oil changes with Mobil 1 Synthetic oil changes. Somewhat expensive around $70. I have not done anything else to the car other than these and when I bought it, the dealership told me they changed the coolant and filters before I received it. Just wondering what else do you guys do every 1-5 years?

The owner's manual explains what maintenance you should do. If you don't have one, you can download it from www.hmaservice.com (registration is free).

^ what he said.

I own a great vehicle with a super warranty. Sure a couple of warranty coverage items could be better, like 5 years for the Nav/audio vs 3. You can be sure that I am going to be following my service manual to the letter to preserve that great warranty. I am also going to get my car serviced at the dealer so that there are no questions about what was done to it and when. If it costs me a few more bucks than at Jiffy Lube, so be it.

Are you going to change out the Fuel Air filter? Manual recommends it at 30k. The bold print in PMCErnie's quote is my edit.

We are going to ask you why we shouldn't.

Well (OP please forgive this hi-jack of your thread) I did personally change mine after my service center told me changing the filter wasn't worth their time... "honestly for what we can charge for this service it's not really worth our time" verbatim quote from my Hyundai service writer to me.

I wrote to Hyundai customer service. They said that it's (fuel air filter replacement) is important and they could not understand the service center's response. Go figure.

I change my own oil. Has nothing to do with cost or saving money. It has to do with doing it right with high quality full synthetic oil. IMO this will make it less likely that any engine problems ever occur that would need warranty service.

I keep detailed records of oil changes I perform that logs the date and mileage (with oil and filter receipts and the Hyundai OEM filter boxes) in order to maintain my warranty in compliance with FTC regulations regarding warranties.

What's the cost of a do it yourself, full synthetic, oil change (filter incl.)? I hadn't bought a quart of oil in years so when I recently topped off my Toyota Tundra truck I was surprised that a single quart of name brand, "dyno" juice was close to $5. I have both of my vehicles serviced at the shop every 3K miles and neither use oil so I didn't realise the increase in cost.

Walmart sells name brand synthetic oil in 5-quart jugs for about $25 (Mobil 1 or Pennzoil Platinum). You can get the Walmart synthetic house brand for even less. Obviously, conventional oil is also less than the synthetics.

I buy my Hyundai filters in bulk online, and pay about $7 each, plus shipping (but no tax). I also buy air filters and cabin filters at the same time.

Even if I were to take my car to a oil change place, I would bring my own oil, since even buying it myself and paying for a regular oil change is usually cheaper than what they charge for a synthetic oil change. I tried that at a dealer one time, but they did not use the oil I supplied (even though I attached a note to the oil filler cap in addition to telling the service advisor that the oil was in the trunk). If I had anyone other than a dealer change it, I would also bring a Hyundai oil filter.

The 4.6 takes almost 7 quarts. I recommend using synthetic which cost from 7.00 to 12.00 a quart depending on brand and what store. Filters 6 to 12.00 each. If cost of service and maintenance items is a concern for you than maybe a luxury car is not a good fit. My transmission service at about 85k this past year was just under 800.00.

The 5-quart jugs are much less than that at Walmart.

Local Walmart just had 5qt Pennzoil Synthetic on for $24.00

Yes but at my two Walmarts they almost never have the M1 or Valvoline synpower in 5w30. I guess they can always say they are cheaper when its never on the shelf.

What site or where do you buy the filters at? I asked my Hyundai dealer one time how much the filters were and he said about $13 plus tax. How much do you pay for shipping from the site, any way to get free shipping?

There are several dealers who sell them online. I get mine at www.newhyundaiparts.com. This is Hilton Head SC Hyundai.

Note that my 2009 V6 uses the older Hyundai filters made by Mann, and some of the new Genesis sedan model years use the Mahle filter with white end-caps that is closer to $10 online.

At those prices you cannot get free shipping, but if you order a bunch of oil, air, and cabin filters at one time, shipping is not a major cost per item, and there is no sales tax (unless you live in SC). If you live on the West coast, there might a dealer that is closer that will charge less for shipping. Also, when I order a bunch of filters at one time, I only have one receipt to keep track of for warranty purposes.

You must be going at the wrong time. By Saturday afternoon, most of Mobil 1 jugs have been sold at any Walmart (although they probably have some in the back). Try going during the week or early in the day. There may also be a special for M1 5W-30 right now at Costco (unless it recently expired).

I do not shop at Wal-mart because I am fully clothed and do not act out on bipolar syndrome. Try Target 1st. You may get you head after that thought, but how bout going to an auto shop 1st.

I realize that Target is based in MN (which might skew your perspective), but I have never seen M1 in 5-quart jugs at Target.

In fact, most of the 5-quart jugs at Walmart have the Walmart logo on the manufacturer label (including Mobil, Pennzoil, Cartrol, etc.
