Hi everyone,
My first post in this amazing forum where I learned a lot about my car, speaking from Saudi Arabia, Riyadh.
Btw, my English is not that perfect and concise, please pardon me.
And I am writing this to see if I can find assistance or just share my weird experience.
I am an owner of Genesis G80 (2017) Royal edition (full options) bought it on 2018, and until last May it was going smooth and gentle.
The car drove for 85k now, and suddenly in last May 2023 my RPM started acting up once in a while.
The issue is simply when I drive the car there is a sensation of my car going unhinged as if I put it on Sport mode but it's actually on ECO always.
Then I noticed that my RPM is where this sensation can be seen, the car RPM rises up to 1-1.1 on traffic lights and stays there and sometimes it goes back to normal when I drive off. My normal RPM range is usually on 600 without A/C and 700 with A/C on while parked.
What really scared me lately is that my car recently starts to keep on driving when I actually left my foot from the pedal to take a right or left turn slowly and gently (I drive like business men very slowly) but the car keeps going where my speed meter stuck on 45 KM and RPM also stuck on 1400 or less.
I reported the problem to my local dealer on my 80k regular maintenance check and they said "we sprayed the RPM" what ever that means.
The problem disappeared for 2 weeks, then came back again late June 2023. Called the dealer again for an appointment and dropped it off for a 2nd check up.
The dealer claimed at first that my warranty has ended but I talked to the manager as the service advisor suggested because I have no warranty card.
Who then said that if you don't have a warranty card, we will see the date on the invoice of purchase and follow that date.. luckily I bought the car on July 29 of 2018.. so they "updated" my warranty status in the system to include 1 more month in validity according to my date of purchase.
The dealer then commenced in the check-up process, they requested 3 parts to be changed as follows:
1- Thermostat Assy
2- Controller Fuel Pump
3- Hyundai Long Life Coolant
They called me home without a car loaner/replacement because I preferred not since it's a hassle for my personal taste.
Then they called me after 1 week to come pick the car up. Once I drove out of the centre, the problem showed up again as if nothing has happened.
So I visited them again the next day for another check up, this time the technician offered to drive test the car with me.
He drove the car for 5 minutes and the issue came up and he confirmed it, then dropped me back to the centre so he can show it to the tech team inside.
Half an hour later he returned saying they programmed the computer and the problem should disappear.. the funny thing is that he is giving me my car back with the RPM stuck on 1 haha. I told him this is not fixed how can you give me the car back? He said drive today and come back if it persist.. it's not a big deal anyway!
Sure enough I returned the next week for the 4th time and they took it inside for the technician.. then the service advisor returned my car after half an hour with 1 paper that include a screenshot of the OBD I am guessing, the screenshot has "GDS" in the title and 7 window application that has "Fault code" in it's titles with most results showing "Good" and very few "Failed".
To assure my readers, here is the codes that resulted in "Failed" status:
(AHLS, AHS, AAF, PGS, SPAS, 4WD, ECS, ECALL)
With no idea what these codes mean, the advisor said it's nothing to worry about and not related to my issues and my issues are "officially" fixed according to this screenshot!
Now I am without a warranty, with the problem still on hand. I tried to contact Genesis mother company to file a complaint but I failed to find a way.
I am not sure if I should visit the other dealers who offer Genesis services and pay for another check up or you guys have better ideas
Cheers,
