  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Rspec vs heavily modded Silverado SS

Sorry if my questions sound stupid but:

Does weapon R intake with 9inch k and n filter void a car warranty?

What kind of shop would generally do this type of work?

What kind of cost(s) associated are we looking at?

I installed the R2C intake with heat shield in under an hour in my driveway. It's a very simple install as you simply remove the factory airbox/pipe and replace with aftermarket. The biggest pain is removing the factory setup and that's just because there are a bunch of plastic clips. I don't know if the Weapon R intake comes with a heat shield but I suggest getting one that does.

Doesnt void any warranty, unless the issue if any is related to the intake itself. 300.00 for the intake 50.00 for the filter. The intake itself comes with a good foam filter, but k and n filters do a better job of cooling the air before it enters the engine. I run the foam filter in winter time and k and n in the summer. A few guys have had issues with fitment with the weapon R. But I wasnt one of them.

weapon R comes with a heat shield. But based on others expierence on here I can no longer reccommend them. From my own experience, it has been great. I have pics of my install title weapon R intake on this forum.

I would suggest removing the intake prior to any dealer visits. They probably won't care but I'd hate to have someone make note of it. The worst case scenario is that you lose the engine warranty but retain the warranty for all other items.

K&N (or any oiled air filter) should not be used with DI engines. The oil tends to get into the intake tract and make a sticky mess over time. This is well known on non-DI engines and the throttle body gets gummed up requiring a good cleaning every 10k miles or so. With DI engines the issue is far worse because it gets baked onto the back of the valves and there is no gasoline wash from the injectors to clean it off.

I wouldn't use one. But to each his/her own.

That Silvy SS doesn't have over 500 HP to the wheels. An N/A Lq9 engine with cam/headers/intake/exhaust/built trans with stall converter will only put down 400-420 wheel hp max. Was he supercharged?

Yeah but the torque must be immense. Sure it loses out a the top end with no power... but it pulls quite well for the first few seconds.

I have a pontiac grand prix supercharged with 180k miles on it. Ive run k and n intakes since day one.. I rebuild the engine with rockers, springs, forge pistions and a ported intake myself. the inside of the block was spotless. Futhermore, the only time theres oil issue with the filter is when its cleaned reoiled and not allowed a proper time to dry. Which I recommend 36hrs..

the 500 was a typo, meant to go back and correct that but been busy with my family. Its rare when I get to race an recored it ;) I believe he dynoed at 436hp and 386tq... which on an awd with 410 gears an 3600stall makes for a pretty stout truck.

Spend a little time and do some research online. There are tons of problems using oiled filters. And they are far more than just the issue I sited. Not good. Stay away from them.

I'm holding out hope one of the oil-free performance foam filters will be made for us. Example, the Amsoil or AEM.
