  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2015 Genesis 3.8 Sedan. The amber running lights/turn signals in the front seem to burn out rather quickly. I read that it gets too hot in that compartment and the bulbs/pigtails go out frequntly. I replaced the passenger side pigtail and now it seems that the drivers side is getting scorched as well. Has anyone replaced their headlights with aftermarket ones that do not have this issue or somehow changed the running lights to the LED strips at the bottom of the headlights like later models? Or even changed the headlight assemblys to the newer one, not sure if they would fit and local dealership is very little help.

Thanks

There are several threads here about this, including led options. Search for drl.

It’s a known thing with the 2015 series. The engineers for some bright reason used the turn signal halogen bulbs also as DRL. Those bulbs work fine as turn signals in short bursts but are not really made to be on all the time. I literally have had to change my bulbs 10x each, and the whole socket harness assemblies once as they melted some.

Hyundai should have addressed this in a recall and it’s ridiculous. The LED work arounds are iffy at best, but would be the proper fix. I’ve simply opted not to run with lights in AUTO and rather with headlights always on. They become my DRL and the amber lights only are used as turn signals. No burnouts for 2 years now. That’s not ideal as next my headlights will go but since the dealer knows the DRL is an issue what else do you do?

The amber bulbs are cheap so if that was the only issue I wouldn’t mind. The driver side is accessible and easy to change. No problem. The passseger side I can’t get my hand into and you have to take a lot apart to do it properly. When it costs $100 a pop to change a $3 bulb and happens many times it’s an issue that is totally unacceptable.

Switched to LED pretty much when I bought the car in 2018. Only put new bulbs in 3 times since. The bulbs that worked the best they were discontinued and had to switch to others. Several threads on this. You generally have to repin the connector on one side for it all to work.
