Anyone out there own a Santa Fe and/or VeraCruz?

I know they are different but I'm interested in both of them.

I saw the Santa Fe Limited in black leather at the Dallas Auto Show this past weekend and was DISAPPOINTED at the quality of the leather. Everything was wrong. Texture, appearance, and stitching. Any owners concur or disagree?

As for the VeraCruz, I'm more interested in ownership experience. The quality of it is better than the Santa Fe. I know this is supposed to be obvious, but it's almost like night and day.

Any feed back would be appreciated. Looking into getting the wife a crossover as we need more space to lug the baby stuff in and I'm narrowing down our selection to Nissan Rogue/Murano, Hyundai SantaFe/VeraCruz and Honda CRV(it's ugly, I know).

Thanks!

my mom has a 2008 black on brown interior Hyundai Veracruz Limited

she doesnt have the backup camera or GPS

she has had the car for alittle bit under a year

it has 6,000 miles on it and it just as good as when we drove it off the lot

I have driven the car and MY only complaint is that the car in Manumatic mode doesnt shift to 4th gear until very very late. what i mean is you have to go about 70mph to shift to 4th.

Both my father and myself complain that it isnt fast enough, but we say that in our minds, knowing that we both love fast cars and we're driving a truck with a Hyundai Azera engine, dropped into a truck with a different transmission and over 1,000 pounds heavier. haha

I would say go for the Veracruz
the third row also comes in handy at key times when you need it
also plenty of cargo space and standard features
i would also suggest backup camera

I love the Santa Fe. I'm loving it almost to the point that I might get one over *gulp* the Genesis coupe

We own the SF and are looking into the Veracruz. One because of the extra room, two... well because my wifey deserves an upgrade. We've been very happy with the SF and it has been very good to us. The leather may not be up to par vs. the Veracruz, but the $ amount speaks for itself in that category. Nonetheless, I find it to be good for it's price. When I need the shift-mode, it does very well.

My wife and I test drove the Veracruz and yes, it's very nice. The quality is better and it better be since it costs more then the SF. The extra gadgets are a plus... But these two vehicles are for two different markets. The SF is affordable, comfortable and holds its own. We had the Veracruz for 24 hrs and it's suspension is firmer than the SF, with less body roll as well. We really like the Veracruz and we're considering it in the next couple of months :)

sweet! I'm glad that y'all were able to reply. Very encouraging news to hear regarding both the Santa Fe and VeraCruz.

I guess when it comes to the interior, it depends on how you have to look at it. Perhaps the model I saw was an exception.

Can I now ask what kind of mileage people are getting with the Santa Fe and VeraCruz? I know it's reported that the Santa Fe can get up to 24mpg on highway, but how likely/unlikely is that? I forgot what the VeraCruz numbers are.

I'd love to keep both of them for a weekend to test them out, but i know for sure that there are no rental companies in TX that rent out VeraCruz's. I can find a Santa Fe if I look harder.

I hear that both the Santa Fe and VeraCruz don't make the most pleasant sound or feel when hitting larger bumps. I think this applies to most of Hyundai's lineup. Anyone care to comment?

Thanks!

I forgot to mention we have the SF Limited. The Veracruz we test drove was also the Limited. In answering your question, we have gotten 24, even 25 MPG driving @ 80 MPH to FL. So yes, it is likely :) The VC is quoted at 22MPH (I believe). It is heavier than the SF and I've heard of people getting to 23 MPG, if they try hard enough. Seems like the VC takes alittle more effort than the SF to get the estimated 22 MPG. I find the engine in the VC to be adequate for it's weight/size. It has the Azera engine, which should've been given a better tune to increase the MPG rating.

You should be able to find a dealer to have you do a 24 hr. test drive.... with sales not being a strong point because of the economy; I doubt them having a problem doing it.

We've hit our share of bumps and I cringe everytime, but that's because I do that regardless of what car I'm driving. The SF has handled it well and I purposely hit the big bumps on the VC to see it's response. The VC has more noticeable feedback than the SF and I believe it has to do with the firmer suspension. It absorbs the impact, but you'll feel it more on the VC than the SF. - NOT alot more, just more....... :)

Hope this helps!

I really appreciate all the feed back I'm getting.

I guess now I just need to go test drive both of them.

Thanks!

Same here. When I was looking at the Genesis sedan the other day they had a Santa Fe in the showroom and I loved it. The exterior and interior color combination I liked and the woodtrim on it looked just right and the best part was it was a hair over $16k so I'm guessing it was a used model and not a new one unless they have a whole lot of them still in stock and are looking to unload them

Rumors are that there will be a Sante Fe face-lift later this year. Also, a new 4-cyl engine option and new tranny might be added to the lineup. The 4 cyl might be a turbo, but not as sure about that prediction.

Maybe it was a 2008 model. Looks like they are offering $2500 - $3500 rebate on 2008 Sante Fe, plus $1500 Valued Owner Coupon.

Throw in a $1500 dealer discount off MSRP, and maybe 16K is accurate for the 2008 model.

Well I know where I am stopping by tomorrow after work. I'm also liking the 1.9% APR financing for 49-60 months.
I think you get the rebate, or the low interest rate, but not both.

A couple days ago, while talking to a guy about my Genesis, he told me that he owns a five or six year old Santa Fe. Said that he loves it. Never gave him an iota of problems. He is now stuck on Hyundais and when it is time to get another, it will be a Hyundai.

Both the Veracruz and Santa Fe are great vehicles. I myself have an '07 Santa Fe GLS and after 2 years and 24k miles I haven't had a lick of trouble. I'm averaging about 23 mpg right now. I hope to upgrade to a Genesis once I graduate college :)

Since the Veracruz is to compete with the Lexus RX and Lexus came out with a restyled RX I wonder if Hyundai with come out with a new model for the Veracruz?

My Sister has a 2008 VC. Not a single issue. Built like a tank. Her's is a Limited with everything but Nav. Stereo is fantastic, interior very upscale. Rattle/creak/squeak free. Everything just top notch. Her biggest complaint is that the turning radius took some getting used to, but, I have heard that same complaint about other SUV type vehicles. All in all, she and her husband cannot say enough good things about their Veracruz experience.

Very incuraging news on thye Veracruz, thanks.
I'm thinking of swaping out the wife's Town&Country for a CUV. The top picks are the Veracruz Limited, Masda CX-9 Touring, and Toyota Highlander Limited. Any more comments on the Veracruz or these others, that might be helpfull, will be apriciated.

Probably will see a refresh soon (hopefully will result in an improvement in aesthetics, unlike the new RX which is a step backwards for Lexus).

But more important than how it looks would be an improvement in the powerplant/tranny - the thing that hurts the Veracruz is its less than stellar fuel economy.

The Veracruz and CX-9 are on par w/ regard to residual value.

Other than that - they are 2 quite different crossovers - w/ the Hyundai having a softer, more plush ride and the CX-9 having a more sporty ride.

The CX-9, being a larger vehicle, also has about 14 cubic feet more of cargo space than the Veracruz when the 2nd/3rd rows are folded flat (the CX-9 also has slightly worse fuel economy).

I bought a Limited AWD Veracruz in Spring 08. My wife and I considered the Mazda and thought of if as a serious contender. I think the last row of seating in the Hyundai is the most functional of any of the cars I test drove. I would not think of putting an adult back there for anything more than 20 minutes though. The front wipers are loud and the key is kind of buggy. I think its the battery but I have been through two batteries in 2 weeks. I ordered the batteries online so, I will give Hyundai the benefit of the doubt until I can get to the local radioshack.

All in all, I love the car and would purchase another without question.
