  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Coming out of the winter funk, it looks like I made a couple of scratches while scrapping ice. It is not on the paint but on the black (not sure the name, trim maybe) located just aft of the rear driver door's window and also just outboard of the sunroof. 1 pic is of the door and 2 are of the roof. Is it glass or some sort of plastic coating and is there any way to repair? Would a detailing shop be able to take of it, or PDR guy?
Thanks.

A good detail person would be able to improve if not eliminate these scratches. It all depend on how deep the scratches are.

I am very careful when removing snow/ice from these areas. Glossy plastic scratches very easily. Ideally this trim should be a mat/textured surface to protect/prevent/hide these types of scratches.

I actually had these pieces "wrapped" in plastic film on my G80 to prevent this type of damage. I got too aggressive with my snow brush this winter. There were scrapes/scratches on my driver door trim. With some cleaner, light polish and little bit of heat the plastic film self healed and scratches were eliminated.

i was very cognizant of not scratching the paint, learned that lesson many moons ago, but apparently didn't pay attention to these areas and in hindsight, kind of thought they were glass. 🙁
I'll check out some detail shops in the area and see what they think. Thanks.
