  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So, if you didn't buy a 2012 3.8 Premium , what would be the second choice (not including the 4.8 or R-Spec or 2011 Genny...) in the 35-40K range?

Drive an Acura TL. Probably best in terms of value. 3rd on all reliability charts.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but Chrysler 300C.

OMG you have to be kidding,.... Too many other good choices for that money - depending on what you need.

A used late model 3Series would be head shoulders above any Chrysler - or a late model to new Infiniti G37. If you have to have a larger sedan - a used late model Lexus ES or GS.......even an E Class.

Heck , have fun shopping!

Sorry, but can't agree with you there at all my friend. Had a 3 series BMW and then went to the Infiniti G35 three years ago. Blows away the Bimmer at almost all levels including features, comfort, interior and exterior design, audio, power and performance for the price, cost of ownership, and reliability.

I would never go back, honestly, although the BMW was fun. The G is simply incredible.

Now we've bought the Genesis 3.8 premium as the car my wife drives primarily. Not quite as playful as the Infiniti but what a fine beauty the Genesis is turning out to be on so many levels!

I'm assuming the OP is talking about new cars. the G and 3 series cars are too small and much more expensive unless you get them naked. The GS starts at 47k. The ES is FWD so that's out and an E Class starts at 51k

The G is simply incredible? Talk about hyperbole. I test drove many Infiniti's and found them to be unrefined and expensive for what they were. A G35 may be more reliable and slightly more comfortable than a 335i, but that's about it. The BMW drives way better and the interior materials don't resemble a Maxima.

I agree. Even for a guy who never recommends domestics you have to admit the strides Chrysler has made. The new pentastar v6 or the v8 hemi have reviewed quire well.

Is there something wrong with the consideration of used 2009 - 2011 Genesis or are you strictly looking at new cars?

FWIW: Both of our CPO cars were in the asking prices in the mid 20K.
Not taking the initial (new car) depreciation hit was an aspect to consider.
We did not want to pay the price for a new car... settled for a CPO 3.8/Tech for 2/3 of the cost.
The logic was good enough to do it twice...

My “other car” is a G35 and I totally agree with you. Although as you will see there is an apparent vendetta against this car from other members. For “me” it’s been the perfect blend of sport and reliability since 2007. Everything “even” the elaborate electronic systems work all the time as expected. It is a very responsive fun car to drive. The Genesis is a different car very respectable in its own right. Much more attuned to the job of getting you there in very isolated luxury with a minimum of fuss.

Coming off a 2008 Infiniti G35X, I would agree with the two other posters and say that the G37 sedan is a top choice in that price range. Another model that I was considering back in August when I got my 3.8 Premium Genesis was the Acura TL. But the lease program was a big factor for me and the Hyundai and Infiniti leases were much better deals than the Acura.

Personally, I would never consider a Chrysler 300. I have driven a 2009 rental and thought it felt huge, underpowered and handled poorly. I also thought the interior quality was subpar and the exterior design was old man. I have read the 2012 is improved, but the Pentastar V-6 is still underpowered and offers worse gas mileage than the Infiniti, Hyundai or Acura.

When we bought our Genny, the other car we seriously considered was the Nissan Maxima and if I had been going to be the primary driver, I would be on a Nissan forum right now...

It is not exactly in the same class, but close....The Maxima has a lot of the features that you see on most premium sedans. The Engine and CVT is really nice and smooth, well proven engine/transmission. I personally like the body style. The interior was alot more sport styled. The middle of the back seat was terribly uncomfortable, it is really only a 4 person car.
