  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2015 Genesis app. 7000 miles on it. Last and only service was in June at 3897 miles. Car wasn't used for 6 weeks due to cardiac bypass surgery. I can get the 2nd oil change free if I do it this week since 1st year since purchase is ending. There is 7500 mile or 6 month service for 4229 less cost of oil change ($30). Is the 7500 mile service necessary or just add-ons to make the dealer richer?

From the owner's manual, here's what's recommended for 7500 miles:
  • Rotate Tires
  • Inspect Air Cleaner Filter (they will do this anyway)
  • Inspect vacuum hose (they will do this anyway)
  • Replace engine oil and filter
  • Fuel additives

So really they're charging $42.29 to rotate the tires and add fuel additives. That doesn't seem like a good deal to me. IIRC, at my dealership rotating tires is usually like $19.95 and I buy the fuel-additive aftermarket.

I am going to make a wild guess that you meant $229 and not 4229 (the dollar sign is shift-4).

Yes, the xx,xxx mile service packages are only designed to make the dealer richer. Look at the owners manual, and only have them do the items that need to be done according to the owners manual. Forget about inspections.

If you want to do the fuel additive thing (I think 7500 miles is too early), use Chevron Fuel Injector Cleaner with Techron, available at any discount store. The Hyundai Fuel Injector Cleaner is exactly the same thing (made for Hyundai by Chevron).

Even worse on the V8 since the staggered directional wheels cannot be rotated and you can bet they will not credit you for not rotating the tires. :o

I did the first inspection at the dealership and when I questioned them about the additive, they said it was special and required and worth about $100 for the snake oil. That was the last time they ever saw me or will see me unless there is a recall or warranty work to do.
