  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I like to do my own oil changes. In my Yukon I run Mobil 1 full synthetic oil and Mobil 1 filters. However, the Genesis is the first vehicle I've owned where I've had an extra long factory warranty on the power train. I'm thinking it might be wise to let the dealership handle the service. This way in case there's any issues in the future there will be service records to back up any repairs. I think my local Hyundai dealer charges around $45 for an oil change with a semi synthetic blend which really isn't too bad.

One of the other benefits of the dealer doing it is that the changes will show up in vehicle history reports such as Carfax, etc. I usually let the dealer do it but take my own oil.

I do my own oil changes using Mobil 1. I save the receipts for oil, oil filters (and also air and cabin filters). I also save the UPC code from the Hyundai OEM oil filter box. I have a spreadsheet with all the information, including invoice numbers from the dealer where I purchased the filters.

I also record my service history at https://www.hyundaiusa.com/MyHyundai

I am quite confident that this will pass review by any arbitration panel if a dealer decides to question my oil change frequency, etc.

I tried having my dealer do an oil change one time with the Mobil 1 oil I supplied. The service advisor wrote on the work order that the customer was supplying the oil (in the trunk). I also attached 2 stick-on labels to the oil filler cap (one on each side of the flange), which said "oil in trunk." They did not use my oil in the trunk, and then lied about it. I had to change the oil again when I got home. Never again.

It will also show up on Carfax if you use an independent oil change shop/chain that reports to them, although one has to be very careful about using something like Jiffy Lube, which is an organized crime syndicate.

Another crime syndicate is Havoline Xpress Lube:

I would NEVER take a car that I cared about to one of those quick lube places. Especially Jiffy Lube. It's either the dealership or me doing it myself. I'm kind of leaning to taking it to the dealership. Especially because of the carfax reporting which I hadn't even considered.

When it comes time for me to sell my car, or trade it in, I will provide all my doc to the buyer. I don't think it I am going to be at any disadvantage when I show receipts for Mobil 1 oil changes with OEM filters receipts and UPC codes (cut out of the box).
