  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So i just bought a used 2011 hyundai genesis sedan with tech. I bought it from a non hyundai dealer. It only has 17,000kms. This may sound dumb but ive never had a car that has had a warranty so im not sure if i just goto them if i have problems or if i have to do maintenance to keep up the vehicles warranty. Let me know. Its a really low mileage gen so im not sure what needs to be done.

The fog light is loose not sure if they will fix that and the winshield is pitted. Will they do anything?

17,000 kms? Are you in Canada or outside the USA? Each country has their own Hyundai warranty, so look in the owners manual. The Hyundai USA warranty is somewhat different than most other countries.

Assuming your car is in warranty, they will fix the fog light, but not the windshield (since it was caused by road debris). Yes, you have to take it any Hyundai dealer in your country to get warranty service. They can tell you if it is in warranty (they will need your mileage and VIN number).

Check your owner's manual to see what the required maintenance is to maintain your warranty. If you don't have a owner's manual, call your country Hyundai Customer Service and see if they can send you a soft copy or tell you how to get it off their website.

In the US, most windshield repairs/replacements are covered under your car insurance policy. Might want to check your policy.

He just purchased the car yesterday, so that might be a bit suspicious if he immediately filed a claim for pitting on the windshield.

So basically you need to do everything the manual says at every interval to keep the warranty?

A lot of what gets down is dependent upon your dealer. However, in the USA you do not have to take your Hyundai or any car to the dealership for maintenance items. Things like oil change, tire rotation, filter replacements, etc. can be done by an independent garage or even by you, just be sure to keep receipts and document what was done, date, and mileage.

However, I don't know where you live, so things may be different in your country. So, you need to talk to your service department in depth. But, remember, they want your business (think $$) but your question is " do you have to take it to the dealership"..... that's what you've got to find out from your dealer.

Yes, that was a ruling by the US Federal government, but check the Canadian laws.

Yes, but in the USA if you miss a service item, and something goes wrong with an unrelated item, they cannot use the missed service as an excuse for not fixing the unrelated problem under warranty. This is US law, but check Canadian warranty law by using google.
