If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

shift points move with ESC off?

Hi all - I have nothing to back this up at the moment, but I tried driving around with the ESC off a couple of times over the past few days and it seems like the shift points change when in this mode. The tranny seems to hold the gear up to a higher RPM, say around 2500, instead of constantly searching around when it gets to 1800 or so. Like I said, I haven't really done a solid comparison, but it's the impression I get. A bit more enjoyable as a driving experience.

Is there any data that shows a change to the shift logic when ESC is toggled?

I don't know.

The few times I've turned ESC off, a big billoing cloud of smoke came roaring out of the back with a distinct smell of rubber and a loooong black stripe on the ground. :)

I have hit the rev limiter before, even with ESC on.

I find having ESC on tends to leave it in a lower gear longer...When I'm low on grip, it'll hesitate to shift until I either take my foot off the gas or find some grip.

Maybe someone else has my experience and could comment.

My 2011 4.6 seems to reluctantly get going from a standing start, especially at light throttle. The car starts moving in first, then after the shift to second, seems to hesitate or almost lower the rpm's. I don't change the throttle pedal position at all, but the car feels like it is being braked.

Just for fun, I tried taking off the ESC and now it's like a whole different car when taking off. The speed comes on much smoother, changes gears well, there is no hesitation and it feels like I have a full-on V8 under the hood.

Could the ESC be over-compensating for something or just out of whack? I'm not laying rubber or trying to redline the engine at all, just pressing on the gas.

Hope someone else has experienced this. Might just have to leave ESC off if this is the extent that it gets involved in my every day driving.

Here is how the ESC option is written up on the Hyundai site:

Electronic Stability Control (ESC) w/ Traction Control System (TCS) - ESC automatically applies braking force to the inside rear wheel to help correct understeer and the outside front wheel to help correct oversteer. TCS automatically reduces wheel spin under acceleration by reducing the throttle opening and/or applying the brakes

Hope this helps...

Greetings, I have a 2012 5.0 and love it! My question is there some kind of electronic device like a power programmer or power tuner which can also change shift points. Anyone?

Thanks

Alright everyone, I have a 2012 rspec. I have obviously driven her both ways. I have found that with eco mode off things change. Throttle and braking seem different. With esc off and eco off thing get better. Now again just my seat of pants feel. Now that being said I also have a Pedal Commander that changes everything. Also I have a, work around for the esc to be completely shut off. My Genesis is a very bad girl. Feel free to ask me about it.
