  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all, I'm new to this forum as I'm currently considering moving from my sonata Hybrid to a '12 Genny with nav. I've driven about 5 of them, but the one I've decided to make an offer on is like new, 30,000kms.

There is one thing I noticed that I didn't notice on previous test drives of other gennys, when in drive, there is a small amount of play in the shifter. I rest my hand on the shifter when driving and feel this play. My sonata is solid, no play.

Can anyone confirm if this is normal to have a tiny amount of free play in the shifter while in D, is it fixable, or something that's been discussed here before?

Thanks for a great forum.

I read this before coming to work today and tried to wiggle the shifter - it pretty much didn't move. I also tend to rest my hand on the shifter (had manuals for the past 10+ years) and never noticed any movement.

No play in my 2012's shifter either.

Perhaps the former owner used the "manual mode" a lot, and moving it back and forth often creates a little play? Who knows..

No play in my 2012, not in my former 2009.

Welcome to the Forum markjnk. Based on other responses I recommend you go back to the dealer and tell them to fix the play in the shifter and you will buy the car. Good luck with your new upcoming ride and be sure to post up some pics...

There is no play with my 2012.

None in my 2012 either.

I notice a small click/movement in my shifter when accelerating from a stop when I'm in drive. Hasn't really ever bothered me though.

That's the shift lock solenoid, and normal.

Ok thanks. Kinda figured so that's why I never said anything about it.
