In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. I lease a 2018 Genesis G90 5.0 HTRAC. I love the car. I leased it in July of 2018. I was childhood friends with the salesman and, because we knew each other and had previously discussed it, he knew that I absolutely cannot stand a vehicle that shakes or shimmies on the highway. Major, major issue for me. The day I took possession of the vehicle, he told me that he noticed the car shimmied/shook on the highway, even though it was brand new. It was a "demo" car, which apparently the dealership manager drove, and it had about 4,500 miles on the odometer when I leased it, but it will still deemed new. Anyway, they put a new set of tires on it at 4,500 miles just before I took possession of it.

Fast forward about eight months. It's shaking on the highway once I reach speeds of 60 m.p.h. or more, and it's driving me crazy. I take it back to the dealership, which is 2.5 hours away from where I live, and I'm told my rims are bent, presumably from hitting pot holes. I pay $250 to have a third party rim repair shop re-balance, or straighten out, my bent rims. Afterword, it drives much better. However, just a couple months later, I notice it's shaking again at highway speeds and it's driving me nuts. I take it back to the dealership (five hours of total drive time). I'm told my rear tires are below factory spec and the tread is worn down low, even though they only have 16,000 miles on them. I'm also told that the front two tires are cupped and have unevenly worn due to misalignment. I pay the dealership $607 for two new rear tires, and they cover the cost of the front two tires when I explain to them the history of the problem and the fact that they put four brand new tires on the car only one year ago. Now, it's still shaking above 60 m.p.h. It's not a jarring, crazy shaking, but it's enough to be extremely bothersome and frankly unacceptable for a $75,000 vehicle that carries a monthly payment that's about as much as my house payment.

What do I do now? Has anyone else experienced similar problems? When I had it in the shop this most recent time (earlier this month) I specifically asked if the rims were bent again and I was told no. I was also told that in order to totally fix the problem, I need four new tires. I now have four new tires and an alignment, and I still notice the shaking and it's driving my absolutely bonkers. Thoughts? Advice? Thanks in advance.

That is unacceptable in any car. The G90 should be smooth right on up to top speed and handle solidly. Especially since you spent quite a bit on the tires and rims fixing.

Is there another dealer closer to you? Warranty work would be covered. If the dealer is unable to find and fix the problem I'd consider spending a few more bucks and having a good shop that does suspension work take a look at it. It may be sloppy work on tire balance or alignment. but it could also be some other problem the dealer is not seeing. If that is the case you may have paid for the diagnosis but warranty should cover it.

There have been other threads here mentioning driveshafts and the like. with AWD that is a possibility also. I'd look for a closer dealer for starters.

I read about some G90 having issues with bad rotors causing front end shaking, does your vehicle has the updated rotors?

Also, is your dealer using a specific Road Force balancing machine?

Funny you say that. I'm not sure if there's any correlation, but yes, I've had issues with my rotors or brakes. I've had it in the shop twice now to smooth out the rotors, or otherwise fix the brakes, due to the car shaking when I apply the brakes at high speeds. It was as if the rotors needed lathed. Like I said, the dealership has had to address the brakes twice due to shaking when applying at high speeds.

When I was in the shop earlier this month, the technician told me that they attempted to road force balance the front two tires, but it didn't help. They were too badly cupped and unevenly worn and required replacing. The dealership covered the cost of replacement of the front two tires. I have an appointment at a different Genesis dealership in a couple of weeks. I'll mention to them the potential rotor issue that you mentioned which could be causing the shaking....

JDA, I have an 018 5.0 AWD and have had similar problems since delivery of the vehicle. It's been to 2 different "Genesis" dealerships and like many others, each points the finger at the other - improper alignment - 5 of them! As previously mentioned in this thread, dealer 2 finally got road force balance equipment but it was worse after his balancing. Turns out the tech wasn't properly trained and they admitted it was done incorrectly. They paid for 2 new front Conti's (6k miles!) and repeated with a trained guy. BINGO - road force balancing is what it needed!

Now - if I could only find the answer to my nagging drivers window wind leak 5 ( yes - 5 ) seals later......Oh yeah, Genesis corporate says it's turbulence from the mirror yet not one other member of this forum has the problem - almost comical.

Thank you for the information. I'll talk to the dealership about road force balancing. The appointment that I have next weekend is at a different Genesis dealership than before. I, too, have a minor wind leak in my driver's window. At high speeds, I can hear wind around the top of the window. I'm constantly pulling on the window button to make sure the window is all the way up, which it is, and the noise won't go away. But, I blast my awesome Lexicon stereo so much that I rarely hear the noise and it doesn't bother me much. The shaking on the highway is what drives me crazy!

I agree the Lexicon system does wonders correcting faults!

Not all dealers do a FULL Road Force Balance correctly. Although I mainly live in Florida, my favorite tire dealer, Dunn Tire in Henrietta NY does it this way.

Spins Tire/wheel slowly with a small rubber wheel rolling on tread. Computer shows tech where to chalk mark on Tire.

Again spins Tire slowly with a metal rod against side of wheel. Computer shows tech where to chalk mark on side of wheel.

Deflate Tire. Break bead. (No need to remove Tire). Line up the two chalk marks. Re-inflate Tire.

Spin balance per normal.

Dunn Tire’s computer even told tech what corner to place each Tire, although you can’t do this if front and rear have different size tires.

If they don’t do it like this, you are not getting a full Road Force Balance.

I had a Lincoln with a balance problem. Took it to various places and it always checked out good. But still had vibration.
When up north, took it to Dunn’s Henrietta location. Problem fixed. Smooth as silk.

I have a 17 5.0 and developed a horrible shake in the steering wheel. Both front rims were warped from potholes and repaired by a hydraulic machine then road forced balanced. The shaking went away. It is the opinion of Derrick ,the owner of The Wheel Doctor in Yonkers, that the Continental ProContact Tires are among the worst he has ever seen. I replaced the rear ones due to wear at 25000 miles and they are rated for 40000 miles of wear. He also said that on average one in ten tires comes from the manufacturer "out of round" and must be aligned with the rim to be true. I was hoping all the tire work would have cured a problem I have had since the start of summer but it hasn't. From a standing stop to a mild acceleration my car has a skipping sensation. Transmission?

Because the tires in the rear are different (size wise) from the fronts, the warranty on the rear tires is half. Per Continental, "Half mileage for rear if different size than front." So, these tires are covered for only 20,000 miles.

Well, that sucks.

I’m in the market for a 2018 G90 but I’ve only driven one so far. It was a new ‘19 at the dealer. The car had been sitting so long on the lot, the battery was dead when I went to drive it. The car drove beautifully until I got it on the freeway. At higher speeds, I noticed the front wheels were shaking. It felt like either the wheels were out of balance or the tires were had flat spots maybe from sitting so long. It made me wonder though if these cars had a shaking problem even though it would be hard to believe Genesis would design a car with such an obvious problem. So I must assume the issue is the tires. But then I saw this thread. Is this a common issue? It would drive me crazy too.

I have a 2002 Jaguar XJR. It’s an extremely smooth car and is fantastic to drive. About a year ago, the front end and steering wheel began shaking between 50 and 60 mph. I had the front wheels balanced a few times but no one could fix it. I finally had the rotors and brakes replaced and that cured the problem. Shaking gone!

Flat spots. My dealer purposely over pressured tires on cars sitting in lot to avoid this

I disagree on flat spots. After a few blocks, tires warm up and any flat spots will go away. If it's directly related to speed I'd say it's definitely balance.

A few blocks may not cure the flat spot. My G90 has this symptom too (the notorious Conti tires). On local roads, I need to drive at least 40 minutes to eliminate most of it. I usually drive the G90 once per week, so the tire will develop serious flat spot since it is not moved for 7 days.

I drove my car to Chicago yesterday (I’m the original poster in this thread) and the car shook the entire time on the highway. Makes me so mad. As I stated in my original post, I just had four brand new tires put on last month, yet it’s still shaking. I’m driving it 2.5 hours each way later today back to the dealership. They’re giving me a loaner. They can keep my car as long as they want. I just want it FIXED. I’ll keep you guys updated.

I have same problem on my 15 5.0 ultimate, my car sits for weeks at a time and I need to drive it like 10 miles before the flat spots eaz up. And about 40 miles until the car really smooths out. I was reading about this and the longer the tires sit the harder it is to get rid of flat spots. I have the conti extreme contacts. I never owned a vehicle that was so horrible with tires. I did have a 77 Chevy Scottsdale with biasply that flat spotted in cold!!🙂

I hope you get it fixed jda8, that will drive a person insane!!

Thanks. I hope it’s fixed, too. Been dealing with this issue for months.
Yeah that really stinks! I found a bent rim on the front, and now I am pulling off the rear tires today so I can check them to see if they are true. The sad part is the dealer was supposed to check them when I had them balanced, and another tire place balanced them as well and no one said anything about bent rim. The roads I drive dont have pot holes and are good roads to drive. It appears that these big rims bend easy? I never had such problems with rims and tires. As I said earlier I really hope you get your car back and it is 100% . These cars are to nice to vibrate / shake/ shimmy going down the road!!!@ Good luck jda8!
