  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Should we separate forums based on whether they're gas-powered/hybrid or electric?

I've had a few requests to separate forums based on whether they use gasoline or not. I'd like to know a few things...

Do you want this?

If this is to be done, it would be a huge undertaking in some forums depending on the structure. Take the GV70 for example.

There are separate categories for discussions relating to the drivetrain and exhaust, technology, interior, exterior, lighting, reviews...

Is that separation necessary?

If so, it'll be a huge undertaking to identify, separate, and move all electric-related discussions to those individual categories.

It may even end up getting messy with more places to monitor for topics being posted in the wrong sections.

Ultimately, I want this community to be easy to scan through and find what you're looking for. And I do like organization - I'm thinking most people expect some type of organization of subject matter.

GV60 owner here and there is only one forum with no sub forums, and it has been ok for me to not have sub forums for drivetrain and exhaust, technology, interior, exterior, lighting, reviews...

I'm ok with separate forums for Electrified G80 and Electrified GV70 talk while still keeping the sub forums as is under the current structure.

Not sure if you're saying you want separate electric forums with or without the sub forums...

Too many categories can cause you to miss information. Take the G80. Easy to decide where to ask about a fuel pump problem or a charging issue. What about a sunroof problem? If posted in the particular category of your car, the answer my be missed if the other type has the answer but did not see your question.

Hopefully, people are looking at the subject to decide if they should read the post rather than the category.

My preference is for separate electric forums with or without sub forums since I'm used to not having any sub forums with the GV60. I'm finding it hard to find/read posts for only the electrified models of the GV70 and G80

I'm thinking that others enjoy the sub forums, so maybe leave them as is and just create one for all talk related to Electrified G80 and one for all talk related to Electrified GV70? I certainly don't want to create too much work for you as well.

Thanks, guys. I'm going to get more input.

It may make sense to avoid the subforums/subcategories and just keep everything in one forum for each model - one separate for gas and one separate for electric.

I hope more people respond with what they prefer so that I can make the right decision.

I’d prefer separate…no longer have much interest in ICE vehicles nor wading through lots of posts/threads on what is for me off topic.

That said, one approach might be to combine all Genesis electrics in one sub-forum instead of 3-4. Many electric issues are relevant across the marque.

Thank you. I think I'm going to need to separate each electric car into its own category - but I'll cross that bridge when we get to it. It looks like we're going to get some good conversation going on this, so we'll figure out exactly what to do in the coming days...

I’m new to Genesis and to the forum so for whatever it’s worth, I’d prefer separate categories for ice and electric vehicles by model. Sub categories are okay but not necessary.

Usually I just go to “new posts” to make sure I see all the latest posts.

I'm good either way. The only issue that I see in separating them is that some topics are the same with electric and ICE. For example, headlight condensation or panoramic roof issues.

I do believe we have discussed this in the past... Perhaps the electric forums should be ONLY for topics related to issues OUTSIDE of those that can also be related to an ICE vehicle...

Personally, I am in favor of whatever works best for you. I suspect few users understand how much work you have to do to maintain this forum.

My own personal preference would be to create a subforum. For example, a GV70 is a GV70 whether its powertrain is electric or combustion. And I would not bother to move existing threads. Like @David-R I go to new threads to see if there is anything outside of my vehicle type. Over time, that will clean out the older threads without having to reorganize them.

But if Genesis came out with a GV90 that is only electric, it should still have its own forum (GV90) If later it added an ICE version, that could be a subforum. Or, of course, the reverse.

Thank you. What I would LIKE to do - at least for now - is this...

And electric owners, let me know what you think...

Yes, the GV70 forum is the GV70 forum. However, there are a number of topics that will be SPECIFIC to the Electrified GV70. So...

For the time being, we have an "Electric Specific Discussions" subforum - and subforums are listed at the top of the page - above discussions...

I can do this for every forum - even the subcategories. OR I can just wait until enough ELECTRIC-specific discussions build up enough to be separated out.

OR I can just keep ALL the electric-specific discussions in one big GV70 Electrified forum listed within the GV70 section.

I THINK this makes the most sense. At the very least, in the beginning.

I'm going to set this up NOW so that we can at least start walking in the intended direction, whatever we decide that may be...

Noting that I have made these changes and did my best to move topics into the right spots. If you see something that shouldn't be there - or something that should be there - please report the topic and let me know.
