Side mirror puddle lighting.

2012 3.8..... When should the lights under the side mirrors light up? Have never seen mine illuminate. I'm assuming they should illuminate when you walk up to the locked car so you can see the ground better?

The puddle lights, as they are called, on my 2017 G80 light up as I approach. Not sure if this feature was available on the 2012, but perhaps an Owners Manual search for that term might help?

Ok.... So I went out to the locked car in the garage and I get this when I walk up to it. What the? I also noticed when I bought the car a couple of years ago that the drivers side mirror turn signal lamp does not work when I use the turn signal but flashes normally when I unlock the car? When I walk up to the car should the puddle lights come on without the turn indicators? Someone must have had the driver side mirror off at some point and screwed up the wiring?

Using this post I broke down the drivers side mirror. How to: Genesis sedan Power mirror gear replacement I found that the puddle lamp was taped over for painting and the tape was never removed. I removed it and the lamp was still not illuminating. Pulled apart the mirror and found a date code of 2016 so the mirror assy had been replaced. The harness that is supposed to plug in to the puddle lamp was plugged in to the turn signal indicator and nothing was plugged in to the puddle lamp. I found the puddle lamp harness tucked behind the mirror hardware, plugged it in and tested the mirror.... All good now!
This was a certified pre-owned car when I bought it so I'm pretty sure this was some typical dealership handy-work. They painted and installed a new mirror and never tested it for proper operation. If you have to go to the dealership, always check the work before signing off on it.

Only had mine about a year now and I was pleasantly surprised the first time I walked up to the car at night. I thought how nice of my car to welcome me back. It also LOVES to connect to my phone any time I open a door, even when its off. Kept wondering why the hell my music playing on my phone was turning off.
