  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

The passenger side view mirror on the 2015 Genesis got hit in the parking lot. Not even a scratch on the housing but the mirror part is loose because some of the plastic retaining clips broke from the impact. The dealer and OEM parts suppliers didn't have the replacement part as they say the car is so new there has been no demand. I was wondering if anyone knew a trick that would secure the mirror back into the housing. The remaining few plastic clips are holding it but not secured. The electric mirror still works...able to adjust it from the drivers console.

I was thinking of an instant gel adhesive or 2 sided tape. Would appreciate any advice and ideas.
Thanks!

Two-sided, or automotive trim tape, would most likely work, but you only get one chance for positioning. Another weird thing that works well for these kinds of purposed is BluTack or poster putty. It's available at art stores and Home Depot and can work wonders for things you want held firm, but still removable. If properly applied it won't come off until you want it off. It sounds a little crazy, but don't knock it until you try it. :)

I hit a big black garbage can left in the street by the automated truck right on the passenger side mirror. About $1200 damage. The glass shattered into a million pieces and was wet to the touch; probably has to do with the auto-dimming.

Surprisingly, the blind spot detection still worked with the shattered mirror held in place with electrical tape. I initially unplugged the wires from the glass and lost the blind spot detection on both sides. When I re-attached the wires, both sides worked again. With what I could see with what remained of the glass and the blind spot detection, driving was not too bad.

John were you able to get parts for a replacement mirror?......Dealer says none available yet because model is so new. My glass is not broken and blind spot still works but mirror is loose in the housing.
