  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings comrades.

I have been reading this forum for a lil bit now and would like to compliment you on your dedication to the cause. It's refreshing to read from people who have a clue.

For a variety of reasons, one of the main characteristics we are looking for in our next car is silence. Pure and total silence. Basically, I've narrowed the search down to two entirely different vehicles: the electric Nissan Leaf and the Equus.

So, for anyone who has driven/been driven in the Equus, could you please comment on how silent it is.

Thank you, and I'll take my answer off the air.

The Equus has laminated glass all the way around (versus the Genesis that has it only the front half of the car), so it will be relatively more quiet than the Genesis, which itself is pretty quiet.

But there's no way it's going to be "pure and total silence." Having driven both the V6 and V8 Genesis, while the external noise is minimized, you can definitely hear the engine when you press the accelerator. Much more so under wide open throttle. It's not an electric motor, so stealth mode is pretty much out. Since the Equus will initially launch with one of the same engines, it stands to reason that except for more insulation, the noise will be similar.

Are you talking more about the ambient noise, engine noise, road noise, or a combination of all?

Finally, anyone who's ridden in a Equus (I've only sat in one that's not running) will have done so in a Korean model--either one in Korea or one that's been imported for demo purposes. The model that's eventually sold may not share the exact same dynamics.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Nissan Leaf is a first electronic vehicle from nissan.

I'm not recommend it, If you are not 'beta tester' of nissan vehicle.
Sure, Its fuel economy is maybe good.
But, Is it really safe car? (It is a small size. I bet, Equus is much more safer than this)
how many parts and after market parts are selling?
Where is the Electronic gas station?

And, I can't convince Japanese electronic battery tech is really good....

Hi Air.. Not many cars are as quiet as a Lexus LS460 - especially the hybrid version. The Genesis is very quiet - and as Dataguy mentioned, we expect the Equus to be even quieter.. I wouldn't be surprised if even the engine noise was more muffled than in the Genesis.. However, there IS a gas engine in the car - and it won't be as silent as a hybrid. BUT - with the Nissan Leaf you're speaking about, I'm sure there will be plenty of road, tire and wind noise.. It's a relatively inexpensive car that needs to be light - so it's not going to have a lot of sound deadening material.. When all is said and done, I bet the Equus will give you a quieter experience than the Nissan Leaf...

i'm talking about bright lights and loud noises = health problems.

i drive an FJ right now and am just about to lose my mind.

my wife has an 05 touareg which, every single time i sit in it, resolves to harp on my conscience with its mumblings of, "Nothing this good can be moral, nothing...."

i would sincerely appreciate someone answering this question b/c, more than almost anything, it is the breaker of the deal:

when sitting in the equus, the car is in park, and i'm not buckled up, is there a chime? does it beep for me to buckle up?

when sitting in the equus, i am buckled up, the car is in park, and i open the door, does it chime? does it yell at me?

when sitting in the equus, and i turn it off. but the lights stay on. and i open the door to get out, does it yell at me in a severe, "i-want-to-put-you-in-the-hospital-way"?

i ask because the 05 touareg i mentioned, while being a phenomenal car, was designed, at least in part, by sadists. it beeps and moans more than the dinosaurs in jurassic park with the pulsating rhythm of an insecure strip club. it literally drives me insane.

and there is a way to shut it off. or so i've read online. but one has to beg the dealer to do it. and, of course, every dealer i've been to simply stands the party line, "Well, sir, is the vehicle performing in any way that it shouldn't be?"

Unfortunately, all of those things are pretty standard on any car you'd buy these days. I think the chimes on the Genesis (which undoubtedly carry over to the higher model) are low-key not obtrusive.

What is pretty bad is the high pitched warning tone when you walk away from the running car with the keyfob in your pocket...and that happens a lot when you have push button start with proximity key :(

not so much.

on my FJ there's a code i looked up (turn key once, turn key twice, say magic word, buckle belt, press odo button twice, voodoo, etc. that allows the belt chime to turn off. but even when it's on, it's a) not as loud as the touareg and b) logically it waits a few min before it yells at you, ie gives you an opportunity to drive off if, say, one lives on a long driveway.

and with respect to the lights the FJ just doesn't chime. smartly, i can just leave them on and walk away. in 3 min they'll shut themselves off.

sorry, can you explain this please. i haven't had futuristic experiences with keyless cars like this.
