  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've not been subscribing to SiriusXM on the last couple of cars I bought because I would become frustrated with the ever-increasing cost of the service and how it would increase over time (especially that sneaky monthly "music royalty fee" they started tacking on. I hate scumbag marketing). In any case I've been listening to the complimentary subscription you get with a new car and actually find myself looking forward to the "MTV Original VJ Top 40 lists". I know you could just as easily look up the top-40 list for a given week on your own, but it's fun in a nostalgic sort of way to sort of "re-live" it.

Long and short of it is I'm considering actually subscribing again to XM, and I'm curious as to what the best deals are that folks are managing to score.

Renewed this month for half price for 2 cars. Just chat or call them.

Last time my renewal was due I called and asked about a cheaper plan. Not only did they reduce the price, I also got a coupon for a free Amazon dot so I can listen at home. Look over their regular offerings and then call.

Getting mailers for $60/yr.

I don't currently have a sub to Sirius XM, but I have had it basically since 2008 and I would always call them up to cancel every 6months to a year and they'd offer me either 6months for $30 or $60 for the year. At that price it's usually worth it, but since Covid I barely drive and it's not worth it to me to pay for something I'd rarely use.

Easy to check.. take the SD card and the USB stick and plug them into your laptop... Windows will easily read the files without any issues. My guess is that the USB and the SD card have identical code on them... both designed to update your car.

There are NO executables in there for your laptop to be worried about.

that sounds about right. $5/month
Yep. I’ve been on a “one time only” price of $5 a month for like 9 years. Just have to call and threaten to cancel every so often. Still hate that I have to do that tho

Same here! Just tell them you are cancelling and they come up with something workable!

Yep, call and cancel for they won’t let you. They will drop their rates several times. If you get to the $5.00 a month that is probably about as low as you can get. When they factor that royalty BS fee in, tell um no, $5.00 a month is what you pay each month for a year and that is it. I’ve normally paid $70 a year or so each time. Also, tell them you will only authorize a one time fee and you want your credit card removed after the charge. They will hee haw around on this but I’ve always gotten my way. You do not want a CC kept on file for they will then gig you for the $180 fee next go round. No CC on file means they have no leverage over you. They can paper bill you at next renewal for a $2.00 fee which you can also get them to waive next time. When you are a few days from expiring next time, call and repeat. I had my Infiniti for 9 years and kept XM that whole time but did not pay more than $79 or so yearly with taxes.

They're a pushover for renewing at around 6 to 7 a month for all access. Even the website now offers options for discounted renewals.

Not $60/year but a month ago I was sent a renewal on my G70 for $320 all access. I called them and said I was thinking of not renewing. The rep said call back closer to the July 20 auto renewal date. I called on Sunday and didn't even get to talk to a person before the system asked if I wanted to renew for $99 per year all access. I didn't feel like talking to anyone so I accepted the 66% discount rate. Simple. Done.

So quick question: do they still track on that stupid "royalty fee" in addition to the monthly fee?

Those Fupid Stuckers.

From the SiriusXM website:

Why does SiriusXM Radio pay music royalties?

Music royalty rights were established by Congress and are the product of the Copyright Act. Unlike terrestrial radio, SiriusXM is required to pay copyright music royalties to recording artists, musicians and recording labels that hold copyrights in sound recordings (the actual recording of a work) that were fixed after February 15, 1972. Like terrestrial radio, SiriusXM must also pay music publishers who hold copyrights in musical compositions (or the lyrics and music) through their collective organizations such as ASCAP and BMI. The U.S. Music Royalty Fee offsets royalties payable by SiriusXM to composers, publishers, recording artists, musicians and record labels that hold copyrights in musical works and recordings.

Of course they must pay royalties for selling music. But it should be part of the original total price, not separated to fool you into thinking the cost is lower. Sort of bait and switch, without any options. Typical Sirius/XM shady tactics. You'd think they'd be over that by now.

I just called and squeezed them for the $5 per month (which with tax and fees is really $6.06 a month) plus the free Echo Dot.

Yeah I got that for my G70 and also got the same deal for my 2018 Exhibition.
