  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I traded my SUV in for my G80 and lost the utility of the SUV trunk. Today my wife wanted bark bags for the back yard. Didn't really like the idea of "barking" up my trunk, but to keep her happy, off to Lowes.

I was able to get eight 2 cubic foot bags in the trunk. Six forward to against the rear seat and the last 2 in the space left next to the trunk opening edge. With all in, the trunk closed easily. That maxed it out. I guess a 2 cubic foot bag either is not 2 cubic feet or the G80 trunk is bigger than the stated 15.1 cubic feet. I had 8 bags which would be 16 cubic feet and with them in the trunk, there was still a bit of space on either side.

I would worry more about all the weight!

I am about to run too the garden shop and appreciate your comments here, I should be just fine ! !

hope you laid down a plastic drop cloth or something..

personally I would have spent the $20 for the home depot 1 hour loaner truck and not farked up my trunk or suspension with stuff like that.

or I call my brother and make him bring over my 4runner he has been "borrowing" for 3 years.

Farked? Not familiar with that term. Forked maybe? I don't know what a bag weighed but I think I'll find out. I did note that loaded, it dropped the rear fender just behind the wheel 1.5". The drive was only about 5 miles and I took it slow and easy.

Farked. Replace the ar with a uc.

Those bags are about 20lbs each so 160lbs of weight in the trunk. To be honest I can find anywhere the recommended cargo weight ratings for the g80. But the average mid-large sedan has a cargo weight rating if about 800lbs distributed over the passenger compartment and trunk, typically 3/4 of that in the passenger compartment. Allowing about 200 for the trunk so you were likely ok.

Just me personally I don’t like stuffing things like that in my trunk, it’s why I own a beater 22 year old truck.

Sorry, I was just kidding about farked. My mind recognizes "code" in a NYM. I haven't had a chance to weigh one of the bags, but my weary old bod would have guessed more. I'm trying to drop 20 lbs without too much success.

If I had more room, I would also have an old truck for this kind of duty.

I was guessing on the weight based in a quick google search, if you got the garden time garden bark 2 cu ft brand which is the only 2cu ft back bag I see on Lowe’s, and the manufacturer spec says it weighs 38lbs, so yeah a bit more lol. Like twice as much.

At that your talking ~300lbs. Defiantly right at if not over the recommended trunk weight. I wish I could find som specs on the g80 recommended weight, but I can’t. A BMW 5-Series says 200-250lbs. Depending on the motor. The Lexus says 200lbs. G80 is in he same class so one would think around the same.

Just weighed one bag with a bathroom scale (47 lbs) so that would bring the total of 8 bags to around 380 lbs. No where on the bag does it state the weight. Anyway, this is a one time a year deal and I'm not worried about whether I damaged my G80 or not. Five passengers in the car would easily exceed this one run. I weigh 210 so right there the load was upto 590.

The ONLY reason I posted on this in the first place was to let whoever might be interested in knowing how many bags of bark will fit in the trunk in a G80.

I get that. One run 5 miles. Not going to harm the car. My point was really that no where can I even find the recommended cargo rate rating.
