  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

was out driving on one of the local highways here in South Carolina, when in the right lane (I was in the left) I notice a '12 Chrysler 300 fly by me doing about 75, I was doing the speed limit, maybe 55-58 MPH...watched him as he blows past me, right before we were coming up to a overpass. Just as we entered the overpass, with him maybe 200 yards ahead of me, I see a unmarked crown vic shoot out of nowhere right into my lane of traffic..no lights, no siren, no yielding, no NOTHING!...had a split second to react, looked quickly in my sideview..had traffic in my right lane, so I had no other choice but to slam on my brakes to avoid T-boning the state trooper. ABS kicked in, Electronic Brake Distribution was applied (or so it felt like it did) and I came to a halting (not screeching) stop in the middle of the highway, thank god there was no one behind me!
Genny did real well at stopping from that speed, in only about 10-15 feet i'd say, but...but it did feel at the time that I was braking that I was doing damage to my front end (brakes, rotors, tires). Drove off turned off the AC and radio and just listened to the way the car sounded as I drove off, sounded normal. I have no abnormal vibrations or pulls either. Stopped the car at a gas station and inspected the Dunflops and control arms, sway bars, etc. and saw no visible damage.
So my question is, do ya'll think this could of damaged anything, and should I go take it to the dealer to have it inspected?

I value all your opinions, and they would really give me some piece of mind if I got some input.

Thanks,

I think your braking was absolutely normal. You noticed no changes thereafter, which are probably your best indicator of something wrong. This car and all other vehicles with ABS are designed to "work" with no damage to the braking system.

Your genesis should be ok as long as that doesnt become a habit. in the end what you were able to do is what the brakes and the tied in systems are supposed to do. well done, and glad you're safe

The most likely by product of a panic stop like that would be flat spots on your tires. You would notice it by now if that had happened.

....or some messy pants. Anyhow, it sounds like the system worked as it should and you should have no worries about it.

I'm glad you're okay, Johnny Five.

That trooper is a certified doughhead... though it never astonishes me to see L.E. act that way. Just last night, I saw one diagonally parked (yes, as in 45 degree angle) on the left shoulder of a highway bridge (65mph speed limit zone). SERIOUSLY... WHAT WAS HE/SHE THINKING?!?!

Dipsticks.

Messy pants, yes - flat spots probably not, due to the ABS system's unwillingness to lock up wheels.

Staz, you probably the fastest stopping car in the world...... :)

Glad your car stopped in time.

John

I sure wouldn't worry about it. The car is designed to make panic stops. No reason to suspect damage. Used to do it for fun, even.

there would be no flat spots if the ABS worked properly, as posted above if you didn't notice anything different then you should be fine, the cars are built fairly strong and hard braking and accelerating shouldn't hurt suspension components.

Had to do just that a couple of times on I-10. Unless you HIT something, you're fine.
