If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Ok this is my first winter with my Genesis, and living up in Minnesota we get the white stuff, hopefully not to soon. But I'm looking to hear what winter tires people are using so I can get ready for the season.

Thanks

There is quite exhaustive information on this topic and many threads. A search should yield a lot of research information and opinions from our members.

Dunlop Winter Sports 3D on stock 19 inch wheels. Morrie's stores them at no charge.

Wow Minnesota (specifically the GMA) is seriously represented in the Genesis Owner Pool! (and that's pretty cool about them storing them for free!)

Blizzak LM-60
+1 - but since I don't commute any more I don't think I'll bother with snow tires this season. If it snows I'll just stay home. Our roads are usually passable within 24 hour of a storm in any case.

I had used Dunlop Wintersport M3 on my last car and really liked them. But they aren't available in 18" so I got Dunlop Glaspic. I'm surprised how quiet they are, quieter than the stock tires. We are getting our first snow storm of the season and I checked out the car on 5" of unplowed snow in the Minneapolis area because this is my first winter with the Genesis. The tires and car work fine.

Just drove throuh the snow storm in MN, glad to say snow tires/sand bags worked wonders.

I went with Blizzak WS70 225/55/18 on dedicated winter rims instead of mounting up 19"s on my R-Spec. 3 70lbs of sand tubes from Menards in the trunk, straped in right behind the rear seats.

No issues with deep snow, stopping or getting going. Biggest problem was ground clearence.

MN is represented well here.

General Altimax Arctic on dedicated 17". Also drove them this afternoon in the southwest metro. Ironically enough to go to Menards to get 3 50lb bags of water softener salt for the trunk. They did well and I have no regrets. I also drove with them Friday night to Eau Claire and they handled the conditions on 94 well.

LOL, land of Audi quattro/BMW XDrive/MB 4Matic, aka Minnesota, and all of us with our RWD cars. Odd enough all running different winter tire and sizes. So much for no RWD in MN! First winter in 15 years with out Audi quattro, had to remember how to drive RWD on snow, which I haven't done in 20 years.

Sounds like a lot of successful people driving RWD cars in Minnesota's snow. That's one of the reasons that I think the push to AWD by many car companies is a little foolish. I drove many a recent mile in a 1993 Mercury Marquis and later in a 2004 Mercury Marauder. The Marauder had Blizzacks on it in the winter. While I had it, I would rather drive it in most winter conditions than our 4WD Explorer.

I'm looking forward to the Genesis I have ordered-----hope I get it before winter is over (although it might get babied a little this winter).

17" General Altimax Artic on the Sonata worked awesome this morning:) Amazing tire and quieter and better ride then the A/S's I had on previous to these. 16" of snow in my area.

Decided this morning this will be the final winter season running the OEM 19s with the 235-45 Dunlop Winter Sport 3Ds. Next year, it's a dedicated 17 or 18" winter wheel with another winter tire. The 3Ds aren't terrible, but I know from driving the BMW with 18s/winter tires how much better winter driving can be.

17" on R-Spec won't work, no clearance for front brakes. I wanted to go 17" on mine, but ended up with 18". And not all 18" will work either, need at least 40mm offset to clear the front caliper.

On my way right now to get snow tires mounted. Going through the unplowed side streets (we got 12"+ of snow) wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be, 2 60lbs bags of sand in the trunk and I was un stoppable! Ground clearance was the major issue.

Makes sense! Thanks.

The bags of water softener salt would be a great concern to me in the trunk of my car. The salt is amazingly corrosive, and the bags are cheap porous material that often have pin holes. I discovered this when I stored unopened bags of softener salt in my utility room, and found within weeks, plumbing fixtures and everything else metal in the room turning green or rusting. Salt would do a serious number on battery cables and electrical connectors. JMHO.
