  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Before I bought the Genny - went to a "discount" tire shop - got a quote on snow tires, steel wheels (don't look good, but winter makes a mess of everything anyhow) and installed air pressure sensors.

Then I went to buy the car. When it came time to talk about the tires, the service manager came in. They were loath to sell me the steel wheels - the argument went something like this (I'm not sure I got everything that was said): the holes for the hub come a certain size only in the steel wheels - the Genesis hub is a smaller size, so they have to fit some sort of a spacer - the service manager was unhappy doing this! As a compromise, they offered to sell me alloy wheels at the same price of steel wheels. After wheeling and dealing, I was able to get them down even further - and then I discovered that Canadian cars do not come with air pressure sensors in the car (much to my surprise) so the cost came to considerably less than even the tire dealer.
They supplied 17 inch Yokahama IG20 tires mounted on OEM 17 inch alloy wheels (from the base Genesis - went down one size as suggested for snows)

The tires run very quietly, smooth ride - we've been very lucky here in T.O. - haven't had any snow yet, so I can't report how good they are for traction, etc.
But I know I'll be able to in the very near future:mad:

I too am in search of good snow tires; my wife drove the Genny cross country from AZ to Columbus here, and while the drive was good, once she got here, the snow has hit. The Genny has a lot of HP at the rear tires and it's apparent that it will be better of to 1) park it for the winter or 2) get a set of snow tires. So, while I would prefer to just park it for the winter, when we get fully moved here (she will be going back to AZ shortly), I guess having a decent set of snow tires on cheap, but good looking rims, would be nice. Any suggestions?

I did find these rims:

Keep an eye on EBay and craigslist. I got a set of almost new-looking 18" OEM 9-spokes (the wheel on the car in the header) for $428 shipped to my door, a set of 235/50R18 Blizzak LM-60s that might be 10% worn shipped to me for $460 from someone else, and got them mounted and balanced locally. I've now got a near-new set of 18" snows for about $950. You should have even better luck if you can wait until winter starts winding down and people are trying to unload stuff before spring. Good luck with your search and enjoy the car!

I have a set of 17 wheels off my old car, look almost to good to use as winter wheels but... What size of 17s did the dealer put on, are they staggered like the factory tires?

I currently have Dunlop Wintersports 3D on my 19" R-Spec wheels. They work very well. On my BMW, I had Michelin X-Ice-2 that were excellent.

My guy at the dealership hooked me up with these GT Radial™ Champiro Pro Ice snow tires, for I think $82.00 each. I put them on the stock 17's because I am not a fan of these wheels, and I am replacing the wheels next spring, so I may as well put the stocks to good use!. (see how fun it is to live on the east coast?) They are pretty aggressive tires and make a decent amount of road noise, but it's worth it for any added assist in the snow.

Next spring I plan to either get 19" Coupe Track Pack wheels/tires, or a used set of R-Specs. Not sure which, yet - depends on $$. But, in the meantime, here's a few snow tire pix. Looks pretty normal, I guess
