  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I have had the car for a little over a week and thought I'd convey some thoughts on it.

First a little background. I change cars like I change my socks :) .. My previous car list is as follows: 1995 Mustang GT, 1998 Mustang Cobra, 2001 Camaro SS, 2004 Mustang Cobra (509rwhp/520rwtq), 2006 Mazdaspeed 6, 2008 BMW 135i, 2010 Camaro 2SS/RS (600rwhp), 2012 GT500, 2013 GT500, 2015 STi, and now the 2015 5.0 Ultimate.

I think that Hyundai has done a great job with this car. The acceleration for a car with this weight and the N/A Engine is great, the tranny is nice and smooth (First AUTO for me in a long time (other than my wife's SUV)), the ride is great (a little soft for me, but hey this is luxury), and fit and finish is great. It really makes me excited to see what they do with the G70 that is coming out!

What I would change or at least what I think Hyundai should offer as options (this is really subjective though):
  • A bit louder exhaust - I'd love to hear it more!
  • Wider forged wheel option - A 19or20x9.5F and 19or20x10.5R
  • A better steering wheel. It is functional, but I'd like something a bit more sporty :)
  • I'd love for it to sit just a tad lower
  • I'd like the side bolsters to be able to go a little tighter (for spirited driving)

I know most of that can be addressed by aftermarket support, so no real complaining here.

One thing I didn't think of is with the HUD and my polarized Oakley lenses, you can't see the HUD. Never even thought of this and the first time I wore my sunglasses, I thought the HUD was broken ..

All in all, I am very happy with my choice.

Yes I agree this car was a real turning point for Hyundai. It shows how committed they are to building a good luxury car and quite a worthy effort I might add. Specially considering the competition. Glad you approve and welcome.

Hyundai has positioned this car as a large luxury sedan. It's suitability as a sports sedan, the features of which you would like more of, were skipped to fit the market profile sought. The cars weight, shared parts bin and ride tuning excluded it's consideration in the sport/lux market. That being said, for it's weight and econocar breeding, it's a really nice mix of luxury with enough work done to not make it sloppy or simply a starter car base with a bigger engine and real leather. The relative lack of aftermarket sports support demonstrates its status as a luxury car first.

The cosmetics (beefier steering wheel, upgraded sport wheels, body add-ons, etc) would have been nice options, but would also complicate ordering and push the comparison to cars who are built from the ground up as sports sedans instead of dressed up. Cars which end up with cosmetic add-ons bolted on a car which is pretty firmly in a segment tend to look cheap, which can sometimes reinforce the car makers earlier heritage.

Nice write up and I would agree with most of your points.

yes a thicker steering wheel and half inch lower would do wonders....especially half inch lower part. that would have made a huge difference especially with the large body styling.

the asians seem to always forget the importance of a lower height. bmw and benz always get that right.

nice little post... i agree with all you said... A nice flat bottom steering wheel and tad lower would be nice..my sales lady did tell me that with Polarized glasses you cant see the HUD.. i kinda wish mine had that... overall i/m happy as well..

About HUD... I am 6'4" and even with HUD set at max height, I have to duck my head down to be able to read it. I could lower my seat, but am comfortable with where it is. You should be able to raise it higher.
I just sold a 2004 Corvette Z06 with HUD and it was perfect - much better than the one that comes on the Genesis and that's 12 years ago. I would have thought they improved them by now, which is why I wanted it.
It is almost useless to me, and as mentioned, cannot be seen with polarized glasses.

All automotive HUDs work as reflections - so ditch the polarized glasses while driving or no HUD will be fully visible due to basic physics: not a Hyundai problem! I also HIGHLY doubt the HUD in your 12 year old Vette was better (and a quick Google search confirms this) - did it display in multiple colors, allow font size selection, show turn-by-turn navigation, blind spot warnings, collision warnings, cruise control info, etc.,.?

Just lower your seat a little and enjoy the superior HUD in the G2 Genesis.

I find that polarized raybans still allow the hud to be viewed, not so w oakleys.

HAve my 2016 3.8 for about 1 month now. Only real complaints are with sun roof rattle, voice recognition system and and mapping system. Sun roof rattle dealer will deal with. Voice recognition system is another story. Really got tired of the "didn't understand you BS" no matter if windows roof open or closed or music on or off. really worst I have ever had. Use Siri on my IP, MUCH better and MUCH more responsive than the car sytem. As for the mapping, worst one I have ever had. Someone please tell me why the commands are so bad? "Zoom all the way out"? WHY? Why would I want to see the entire hemisphere? For what reason? And "Zoom all the way in"? No stops until it is at base level. Of course I could use the touch screen buttons, but WHY? My 2011 Limited Turbo Sonata had a MUCH better mapping system in it at a huge difference in price. With that system I could zoom in or out as much s I wanted with simple "zoom in or zoom out" Did it in steps. Not this all the way in or out BS. Heating cooling system IMHO leaves something to be desired. Seems very little foot heat and always air being pushed out on windshield no matter what the climate control setting. Set it for only feet heating and still get hot air out of windshield vents. Maybe a dealer fix? Other than those problems, car is really quiet and drives extremely well, Very satisfied with ride and noise quality. Sound system is great. HAd people come up to me and ask just what brand it was. Will be dumping H on rear deck as soon as someone can tell me if there is a 2016 rear deck emblem available.

What package do you have? (DIS radio, or AVN4.5?)

I have a Signature with AVN4.5. VR is pretty poor. I haven't tried the Zoom commands, because frankly the Auto setting works really well. The few times I have changed zoom level, I just used the screen. Much faster.

I had my car in for service last week, and I had a 2016 Azera loaner. VR was not any better, but my testing was minimal because the SD card was not installed, so no NAV for example.

I'm having my radio replaced due to a couple of issues including lock ups. We will see if there is any firmware upgrade that improves VR.

Most of my VR is handled through Siri, which works great for Phone and Music on my iPhone. For NAV stuff, I mostly use Bluelink, or send to car with Google.

Here is a tip for those who lose site of the HUD display with there sunglasses on. Stop by Sunglass Hut and pick yourself up a pair of RayBans with UV protectant, not Polarized lenses and you can see the display just like without the sunglasses on. It is awesome and worth the money.

Figure Hyundai will do most if not all of that if and when they do a sport version of the G80.

Probably won't see an N-performance version until the next gen model (the G70 likely being the 1st to get the N-performance).

I don't want a sports anything, I just love the car as a big comfortable barge.
I don't want to hear the exhaust and any lower would scrape the brow of the hill to my drive. I have the equivalent to the Ultimate and the wheels are gorgeous.
I'd buy a sports car if I wanted you features.

I agree these two, but Hyundai also must change HID to LED headlights.

Why? The HID's work really well The G90 does have full LED at the highest trim level, so likely coming on the other Genesis models as well. Personally, I like the HID's (look and function) so don't feel a need for LED and actually dislike the look of a lot of the full LED headlight implementations I see popping up these days.

@Florida Alan
Im 6 2 and noticed top half of the H.U.D. is cut off and I had to duck down to see the entire image. I lowered the image, now I see all without ducking. So, lower instead of raise.
