  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So long for now...and thanks for all the fish

After a test ride with the Genesis 4.6 and another luxury brand I’ve decided that maybe the Genesis is not for me. I’ll wait for a test drive of a 2011 Genesis before making a final decision. If that future test turns out like the one that took place yesterday I will be moving on.

The test drive experience somewhat reminded me of the Genesis Coup test I took almost a year ago. I fell out of love with the 3.8 Coup because the steering feel was too loose. Too much assistance and not enough resistance. I guess I was looking for steering input similar to a 3 series or at the very least an IS350. Although the steering feel was a deal killer, I loved everything else about the Genesis Coup.

This time, for the Sedan, the issue was the thumpy bouncy suspension. Very noticeable. It is my understanding the suspension was updated with the 2010 model year. The car I drove was a 2010. My 10 year old daughter commented during the test drive that the seats were bouncy. My son complained that he could not play his Nintendo DS from the back seat. So I moved him to the front seat and the salesman to the back. Problem solved.

My thought, initially was perhaps it was just the model I drove. Since the dealer didn’t have another 4.6 on the lot we drove 26 miles to another and test a used 2010 4.6 Tech (17,XXX miles on odometern - still looked new in side and out) and was rewarded with the same bouncy ride. I will admit though, as long as the roads were perfect it was a smooth rewarding ride.

I remember viewing the car from a distance commenting to myself about how beautiful it was. It is a looker.

I haven’t given up on the Genesis Sedan. I’ll wait until the model year 2011 comes out. Hopefully the suspension will show more improvements. If not I guess I could try aftermarket kits. I’ve installed complete suspensions on cars before and know how much of a difference they make. But if the cost or too excessive ($3K+) or unavailable then I’ll move on permanently.

Until then I hope ya’ll don’t mind that I hang around from time-to-time silently keeping myself informed of all the updates Hyundai has to offer. This is after all a very entertaining Forum. Not as entertaining or dynamic as the BMW site (some of those guys are real pinheads...and I'm being nice), and certainly not dull like the Lexus site (wheels predominate the discussions

I revisited the 2010 and found it noticeably better than my 2009, but a go-cart would be better so it was really hard for me to judge properly.

Oh Doug, you funny little boy, you.

To the OP: maybe you should consider a V6 sedan, some people find the ride and steering better. ;)

Thanks. I'm scheduled, hopefully, for a test of the 3.8 this Tuesday evening.

I love a good Hitchhikers Guide Reference..lol. When buying a car, there is only one person that truly has to love it and that is YOU!!! If the ride of the Genesis does not suit you then there are certainly other vehicles out there. At least you know that you are making an informed decision for yourself. You can't do better than that.

I agree 100%.
Good luck with the decision, OP. :)

@xavier: one thing you might want to double-check before passing on the Genny is the tire pressure on the car you test drove. Many of the dealers are leaving the tires over-inflated which would indeed give you a very bouncy ride. Just a thought. Good luck.

Kudos to the OP - test before you buy; maybe the firm ride of the Genesis isn't for you.

you have got to make the right investment decision for YOU. whatever the dealbreaker or lavish appointments add up to be. I also like th d-adams ref. I came from a 3004 xj8 it was silkier than the genesis but I personaly prefere the connection that my 09 has with the road. might even try to find "stiffer" shocks... but im making some other performance mods too. important thing is you are informing yourself!

Strangely enough (to some people), stiffer shocks probably will improve the suspension, because the early 2009 springs are overpowering the shocks, which causes the bouncy ride in some situations. Of course, stiffer shocks and slightly softer springs (to get things in balance) might even be better.
