By my calculation, that $37,998 quote is $1,273 under the invoice price of a 4.6 with Tech. Perhaps dealer holdback, some sort of a factory incentive or other hidden factor has come into play to keep that dealer from taking a loss on the car. Whatever the case, if that is a legitimate quote for a 4.6/Tech, it's a killer price. Here's my California buying experience:
After lurking on Edmunds' Genesis forum and this site for several weeks, I was 90 percent sure that a 4.6/Tech would be my next car. When a Hyundai rep spent 20 minutes showing me the features of the car at the San Jose Auto Show in mid-January, she convinced me to take the plunge.
I assumed I was going to have to pay list or close to list for the car here in Silicon Valley, where it seems that every other car on the road is a late model Lexus, BMW, Mercedes,
Infiniti or high-end Acura. I checked the dealer's online inventory at the five Hyundai dealers within 25 miles of my home. Only one had what I wanted: a platinum/black 4.6 with Tech, so I called the Internet Salesman at Capitol Hyundai (Bob Baqleh) in San Jose and asked a simple question: Where are you at price-wise for the platinum V8 you show on your website? When he said I could have it for $500 over invoice, I told him not to sell it— that I was on my way.
I arrived with check in hand on Jan. 16th and drove it home. Factory sticker: $42,150. Price paid to dealer: $39,832. Price out the door with tax, license and doc: $43,731. Had I shopped around the state, it's possible that I may have been able to find another platinum/black 4.6 with Tech and saved a few bucks, but life is too short. And I prefer to buy locally. Couldn't be happier with the car and, so far, with the dealer.
