  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all!

I am picking up a 2009 Genesis 4.6 tonight. I cant believe I am buying a Hyundai. This will be my first non-Ford vehicle since I got my license 17ish years ago.

It seems to be pretty well optioned up. It has Nav, and a backup camera. But beyond that I dont know what options it has or is missing. The Carfax said the MSRP was $42,130 So I assume it was pretty well appointed.

There is tons of good info on these boards I have been reading up for the last few days trying to soak up as much info about this car as I can.

Read the manuals

I assume you have the Technology package since it came with navigation. I used to have the 2011 4.6 Technology so it was top of the line for the year. I assume your 2009 4.6 is the same but I could be wrong. Things to keep an eye for that you might have are the automated rear sun shade operated on the driver side door, smart cruise control, swivel headlights, 17 Lexicon speakers etc. Those were the coolest features on my previous car so I'd look for those.

If it has the 17 speaker lexicon and a DIS knob in the center console, cooled driver seat, and it looks like this picture...

...then it's a Technology Trim (totally loaded, top of the range). If not, it's a Premium Trim (middle of the range).

The 2009's had bad limit switches in the seats and tilt-steering, so be prepared. And as long as there is no crank shaft bearing knock or hard 1-2 or 2-3 shifts, your drivetrain should be fine. If it's a tech trim, you'll have one of the best car audio systems ever created. Get your hands on some DVD-A's and enjoy!

2009 did not have smart cruise control, but does have most options that 2011 to 2013 had. From 2009 to 2011 the 4.6 V8 came with the German ZF transmission which I think is one of the best smoothest transmissions built. The same ZF transmission is used in Jags, Bentleys, BMWs. The 2009 has a very stiff ride, so you will need a good quality grand touring tire for the best ride. Also here is a link to a great article on the first year Genesis - http://www.motortrend.com/news/hyundai-genesis-across-europe/ ENJOY

Mine has the knob like that and the cooled drivers seat. So I guess I have the good sound system. I haven't heard any crank knock and all the shifts are silky smooth. Seriously this is one of the smoothest driving cars I have driven.

What is a limit switch and what do they do when they go bad? Is it difficult/expensive to replace? Could I potentially try to replace them myself if I was technically/mechanically inclined?

I quite like the ride. My last daily driver was a 1997 Grand Marquis LS. It was a 4 wheeled couch. My other ride is a lowered 1999 Mustang Cobra, and the ride is...more firm than the Genesis.

The limit switches stop the motion of travel of the power seat/tilt-steering in one direction at the end of travel. When they fail, your seat or tilt-steering will not be able to move in one direction.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Which were your previous Fords?

Mileage???

It's got about 85k. Whoever had it before took good care of it. They also put the Borla exhaust on it.

Welcome aboard! And thank you for signing up. Which were your previous Fords?

1994 Mustang V6,
2004 Mustang GT (rear ended/totaled)
1999 Mustang Cobra
1996 Explorer XLT 5.0
2001 Taurus SES
1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

As you might have figured, I have a thing for V8's and rear wheel drive. Thee other car I was considering was an 04 Marauder.

I still have the Cobra, but once again, it doesnt run. I want to fix it and sell it. And the Grand Marquis is still sitting in my driveway until I can list it and sell it. It needs a bunch of work. Intake manifold needs replacing, Wiper motor needs replacing, blend door actuator needs replacing (air system is stuck on full hot or off, nothing in between, and the dash needs to come out to fix it), the keyless entry doesn't work, and only the drivers window goes down. It would be a perfect car for a mechanic to pick up and fix and flip.
