  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sound deadening front glass.. As the brochure says, do you have it on your car?

Ok, this is a odd but interesting observation. I had rented from Hertz a 2012 8 speed 3.8 base model for several months before making a purchase two weeks ago of a new Tau 5.0. The Hertz car had a special logo in the middle, down low, part of the windshield etched in announcing it was a sound deadening glass. Which also matched the brochure. I could tell the difference verses other cars I own. And as you passed a noisy semi, the side and back glass resonated the noise of the semi.

The Equus has this glass all around.

Ok, I buy my later production 2012... And guess what? It is not the special third party glass (which I cannot remember the name), but instead Hyundai glass. Maybe my mind is playing a trick, but the windshield glass I swear is louder and resonates semi trucks and other noise more. So, is the Hyundai glass a "bait and switch"? And it is just a regular windshield?

The dealer had no understanding when I asked the question. The econobox experienced service writers thought I was nuts. I did show them the standard equipment list off the web sight where it mentions the quiet glass windshield. They had no answer.

I did examine the few other Genesis on the lot and did not see the logo of the glassmaker. They too were Hyundai glass.

Any ideas folks? Check yours and see what brand and type of glass you have.

Thanks.

All of the Hyundai Genesis sedans I have seen since 2009 model (when first imported to North America) have a Hyundai logo on the glass, and it is sound-deadening. That can be confirmed by the specs and price of the OEM class if ordered from dealer (about $900+ for windshield).

Not sure if your rental car had the windshield replaced due to damage and that may be why there was no Hyundai logo, and maybe the replacement glass was a little bit quieter than Hyundai sound-deadening glass (or maybe it was about the same).

I am not sure who makes the Genesis OEM glass, but probably not PPG, etc, since cars are manufactured in Korea

Thanks for the response. I had noticed that special logo on a Equus i saw at parking lot too. And that same logo was on a Ford SHO I drove before buying this. I will keep aware about and see if I can write down the name next time. In the mean time based on your response, will assume the factory made glass is sound deadening glass.

Your rental car has had the windshield replaced. I had mine replaced with the same glass. It and the original we're definitely sound deadening !:D

Thanks Waki.
