  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I know this has been discussed on here many times, but I've been looking around and having trouble finding some info. I recently bought a 2016 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 (back in January). It's my first experience with a Hyundai or a Genesis, and I love almost everything about it. One of the only issues I haven't managed to resolve is that the sound system just doesn't get low enough. I have no interest in pounding bass; I listen to U2 and Coldplay, not EDM or Hip Hop. However, I'd like to feel and hear a little more low end down to ~40hz. From what I've read, it seems like a subwoofer in the trunk is the best option, mounted over the ski pass (which I never use). How powerful is the built in sub amp? Could I just mount a new speaker and tap the leads from that, or do I need to get a new power amp for the sub?

I have background in music, and speaker/cab design, but not in the automotive world, so I thought I'd check here. Ideally, I'd like to keep the cost down, but I'd rather save up and do it right (buy once, cry once) than cheap out and regret it in a year.

The trunk is insanely insulated. I don't recall off the top of my head what amp I have on mine but I have a JL 10" sub and took a lot of oomph to really hear it inside the cabin. If I pop the trunk open while something is playing it's ridiculous how much bass is thumping for me to hear so little in the cabin.

I think the simplest way is to add a small amp to the OEM subwoofer, as I did approx. 8 years ago which is still going strong. That OEM subwoofer can crank out some serious lows, it just needs a little more power.
