  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Does anyone have any experience with the Modern Tire as a spare?

Thanks

Yes, they work well. Rubber filled with air gives a better ride.

I've used the Old Fashioned wood and they wore out fast, stone gave a rough ride. Modern is the best.

Not sure about for the G90, but there are several threads on here regarding Modern Spare Tire, mostly for the GV80. Might be similar, IDK. Use the search option at the top.

Ask a serious question......get a stupid answer.

Nothing wrong or bad with the internet.....it doesn't cause stupid answers, just the person that answers.

And what benefit did your comment add?

The example others can look to as a stupid reply to a post.....just like your last one.

Thanks for helping me find the ignore button.

Apparently a sense of humor has skipped a few people. Lighten up a little, have a good Christmas.

Ok, I'll lighten up some, don't want to fight, just looking for real answers to the spare tire question, not snarky responses. The reason is, I have had a 2018 G90 Ultimate since new and it has a spare tire. Since the 2026 does not have a spare, and only the goop and air compressor(Tire Mobility Kit), I would feel more comfortable with a real spare on a long cross country trip as opposed to just the tire kit that the car has. I know there is no place to store a spare, I would plan on carrying it just on a long trip and not around town or on short trips. The car is mostly my wife's car and around town a flat can be handled fairly easy by AAA or Genesis if a flat happens.

I have read what has been posted, but was just trying to get some current info, specifically for the the G90, and experience if others have used the Modern Tire spare vs the EZ Spare and what is considered the best option.

Thanks for any replies.....I promise to not bite your head off.

I thought about the same spare. For me, the problem with that spare and a road trip is that the G90 trunk is so small, I would not be able to use it with my luggage. I have heard good things about Modern Spare though. If that helps.

Thanks for the answer, I may look at EZ Tire also. From what I read here, the wheel and tire are very close in diameter and circumference the 21” that is on the car and would probably minimize and all wheel drive potential problems if it has to be used as a spare at some point.

Seems the simplest answer would be to take the 2018, and not the 26. 🦈

You may be turning into your parents? :D

I get having your wife stranded is nerve racking.

But just remember

1.)You have TPMS which is actually a large part of the spare tire process IMHO….that will alert you to slow to medium leaks and gives plenty of time to get to a gas station many times.

2.)TPMS allows you the safe choice to drive on the going flat tire or completely flat tire because you were warned and got to the appropriate speed for killing the tire and driving it to the gas station. You can go to the berm and put hazards on etc.

3.) what is road side assistance for?

4.) what are cell phones for?

5.) a temporary spare tire creates just as many problems as it solves for a petite woman who may not be able to change a spare tire.

6.) the venn diagram for the worst case scenario is small. Fix a flat or goop will solve most of the issues. If it doesn’t chances are it was negligence on tire wear or driving through a shady patch of road….highway speeds on the berm as an example.

Changing a spare sucks for all and if you haven’t done it in a while don’t assume that solves your statement problem either. It might just give false sense of security.

You may have been fortunate. Many of us have not.
Evidently, you've not had a serious problem, Roadside assistance is to put that spare on for the petite woman so she can drive to her destination.
Ever had a tire damaged, unfixable, far from home? When the tire stores are closed? Late at night in the rain?
Sorry, but real life interferes with your "just use the cell phone" fantasy.

Does hitting a deer count at 2:00am somewhere between South Bend and Detroit Rock City count? Tow truck, hotel and rental car. It is what it is.

I don’t carry a spare battery or spare alternator around and that scenario is more likely or just as likely to happen than a flat. And getting a jump at 2:00 am in an empty parking lot is a PITA too.

I've had flat tires over the years. Never needed an alternator, once had a battery fail 3 miles from home in 62 years.
I can still drive a short distance with no alternator, not so much with three tires.
