  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

FYI- I went to buy a 2015 Hyundai Genesis Sedan that was listed at 43k with 13k+ miles. The Hyundai was a dealer demo and never plated.
Went I sat down to do the numbers the price changed to 45k.
The salesman told me what a great price it was at 45k and that I would never find another like it!
I mentioned that with 13k+ miles at 43k it was a great price and that was the price quoted in the ad and the email sent to me.
I guess this is why we don't trust car salesman and why the internet is selling more cars than dealers!

Here's the link; http://www.bensonhyundai.com/new/Hyundai/2015-Hyundai-Genesis-719c116a0a0a00021074e8c7a882c9cb.htm

If the link is a dead end its probably sold - but as of this writing it is still available.

Did you get the price in writing before going to the dealership or have a printout of the car's advertised price?

Typically simply providing that is enough for them to change their tune.

I doubt that one can get a legal contract with all the detailed terms and conditions until you show up at the dealership.

If you look at the web link he provided, it clearly shows the price to be $43K.

Nothing is contractually binding until you are signing papers with the F&I guys.

However if they come back with the first pencil and change the price to 45k simply providing a printout or correspondence with the correct price will suffice in getting the price changed.

I wouldn't want to work with a dealership that I experienced this with, but having sold cars in college I do know that mistakes do happen and at times prices advertised online do not always get updated in a master price list salesman often use.

Side note, it always amazes me when salesman say that "you'll never find another one like it".....This might be true with respect to more performance oriented cars or low production cars. But a mass produced nearly new car is quite easy to find, especially in good condition.

I have said many times on this forum that only a written contract is binding for the sale of automobile (at least if over $500). But this is not about what is legal, but what is ethical, and based on the dealer website price, they are lying.

I doubt it is as simple as changing the price from $43K to $45K, but more likely adding on a bunch of ridiculous fees. Either way, good to avoid that dealer.

Thanks for the support Mark.
For the other members trying to justify the dealer - the link is still active which clearly states 43k. Whats not to understand?!!

Last month I found a 2015 5.0 with the Ultimate Package which even had the optional mud flaps.
But the point here is that the dealer that screwed with the price is still sitting on the car and its 6k less than what I was willing to pay!
I have a huge smile on my face as I write this - Justice well served! :):):)
