  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Howdy y'all,

Just wanted to thank everyone who has posted in the past about their clicking noise in the drivetrain. My 2015 5.0 Ultimate from the get-go had intermittently made a clicking noise between 27-37mph, regardless of gear, mode, or engine speed. Several trips to different dealers over the years resulted in either "unable to replicate" or fixes that didn't. Thanks to searching on this forum, and having it happen when I was close enough to the dealer and had time to get a technician to do a ride-along with me, I finally got confirmation of the problem and was able to reference posts here pointing to replacing the propeller shaft as the solution. Just thought I'd share my success story and make it explicit in the subject line to make it easier to find for any others that might also be experiencing the same.

Is it a DIY and if so, how difficult?
I have replaced prop shafts before and I recall it being easy, but those were on Malaise era vehicles.

It was a warranty repair, so I was more than happy to let them handle it. No idea if it is possible to DIY, but seeing how much it takes to replace the left turn bulb in my 5.0, I kinda doubt it. ;-)

I replaced the water pump in my '79 Buick Riviera in college, but as I approach my dotage, I'm finding I'm letting the shop do more of the things I used to do myself.

Hey Joe, how long did they have it and did they do anything else for that noise. I recently had mine in the shop for 9 days for 4 different issues and when I got it back none of them had been fixed. The drivetrain flutter was never heard by the SM (who's been awesome) on our test drives but mine only does it in the morning after sitting all night in the garage and the dealer is half an hour away... I need some way to replicate it at the dealer and get them on the right track quickly since I only have about 30 days of warranty left and am getting married and honeymooning right before it expires...

A lot of people report that it comes back after a few thousand miles :( Keep us posted.

Hey JoeCarl would you mind posting the invoice for they work they did for it. I recently purchased a 2016 Genesis 3.8 Ultimate and I’m hearing the fluttering sounds as well. Plan on mentioning it when it’s time for next oil change. Proof and documentation would be great help for this. Especially with it being done so recently.

Sorry for the delay, folks...I missed the notifications on the thread.

ntmehan: Congratulations! Several fixes had been attempted previously (including a vacuum pump?), all with no result. This time I brought it in on a Mon afternoon (iirc), they tried a few things which didn't work, so they then got me a loaner car and ordered the propeller shaft, which came in on Friday afternoon. I got it back on the Tuesday, iirc.

Gahaha: I hope that doesn't happen with mine, but will definitely let y'all know if it returns.

mrmarshall428: I seem to have misplaced my invoice, but well swing by tomorrow and see about getting a duplicate.

I have a clicking noise in my 2015 genesis that seems to come and go at 30 mph. Is this the same noise that this thread is referring to? And what is a propeller shaft?

Yes. In my experience, it becomes more pronounced below 50 F. I never noticed it in the summer when nighttime lows were in the 70s.
Also, it goes away after about 5-10 minutes of driving. I personally think it is a bearing issue, but others have had the propshaft replaced and claim it fixes it.
