What is the Max speed of my 2018 G80 3.8 RWD Ultimate?

Anyone driving a Genesis G80 at Daytona?

My 5.0 will go 173 mph - wanna race?

Interesting.... I'm pretty sure our cars are governed by law at 155mph max. The v6 probably around 140mph.

I imagine he's done some mods (and hopefully new tires). Curious, what mods did you do to achieve 173mph?

Incidentally, I got my 2020 G90 5.0 up to 156mph - and it got their FAST. Real fast! There was plenty of horespower left as well.., so the true max speed of this vehicle is significantly higher. I could see it being in the 170s. (But given the tires are only rated to 150 I wouldnt want to try it).

The car felt solid and stable too. Very nice. Some cars are terrifying at that speed. The G90 was happy and confident. Awesome vehicle.

I would like to add something to this thread that doesn't have anything to do with my Genesis.
I have a 1984 500SEL MB that states in the owners manual that the max sustained speed is
155 MPH. I have no idea if it will go that fast but do know that 130 mph is easy to do and am sure
more would be easy.
Now, my point is that if I want to go fast, I will pick the MB and the G80 will be used when I want
to act like I got some sense.

I don't know of any "law" state or federal that imposes restrictions on max. speed. Any decent 'Vette will do over 155 mph.

And since covid-19, traffic has been light and the police are scarce, so there have been many arrests for people "maxing out" their cars at speeds well over 155. And almost any of the pricier cars has either a V8 or a turbo V6 so the power is there.

CadilLac 2016 ATS-V boosted a 189 MPH top end while it's CTS-V was advertised to top out >200 MPH, from the Showroom Floor. Not under my foot!;)

It is a limiter coded into the ecu. The tires are only rated to 155. You can get around it with a hack, of course

A limit can be coded into the ecu - but not necessarily is. When I bought my 2015 Genesis, some of the cars were equipped with garbage tires, and as I recall, the speed limit coded in was like 130 mph.

So, are you saying that your 5.0 came "open" from factory? or someone else re coded and removed limiter? as were v6 guys down to 130 mph when they started putting those shitty tires on them?

To my knowledge, the only cars coded down (limited) were the ones with lousy tires - I think they were Hankooks. Undoubtedly, this was a "lawyer driven" decision.

Absolutely a lawyer decision.

I believe my 2020 G90 manual specifically states it has a limiter set at 155 mph (would have to check again, but I'm pretty sure I read that). And it makes sense.., the tires are only rated for that speed.
