  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Have recently noticed on several occasions that after shutting engine down, there is a strange sound that is similar to a turbo spinning down. Lasts about 5 seconds. Any ideas what that could be?

Fan from your heating/AC blower.

I guess it could be that. Definitely under the hood somewhere. I will try shutting down climate control and then shut down engine to see what happens.

Power steering perhaps? If I remember correctly, the V8 models use an electric power steering system, not one driven by the engine serpentine belt.

Or just a simple electric motor for the radiator fans... might be dying. Try this test: next time the engine is stone-cold, start it and let it run for about 30 seconds - A/C system totally OFF, then shut the engine off. That's short enough that there won't be any heat in the cooling system so the fans shouldn't have started. If there is no noise... it's possibly the radiator fans. I've never heard mine so it may be an early warning of failure if this is the noise source on your car. Restart the engine within a minute or two and go for a drive to warm it up; some of the V8s do nasty things when you start them, shut them off quickly, and then re-start several minutes later. Gas seems to puddle in the intake manifold or cylinders causing a horrible noise until it's all burned out. Mine doesn't do that but quite a few folks have experienced on this forum - there's a LONG thread on this issue.

OH MAN!!! You got the super secret 4.6 turbo w/ 680 rwhp! ;)

I would guess it's the electric radiator fans. ;) If the engine is warm enough that the fans are going when you shut her down, this would be the case.

Going to give suggestions a try today and will report. Not an alarming sound but was just curious.

There are fans in the front seats that turn on when the seat heaters/coolers are used. I notice a spin up/down when they are on their highest settings.

The spinning down definitely related to climate control system. It may be that Hyundai uses a secondary electric water pump, as was case on my previous car, to circulate hot water through the system. I also had a setting on previous car that would allow you to get heat without ignition being on by utilizing the electric pump.

Would be curious to know if anyone else hears this spinning down sound. Again, only heard if climate control is engaged. With climate control completely off, it does not occur. Thinking maybe now it could be something to do with compressor being on when in auto mode.

check the fan area where the cabin air filter is located. somehow mine got a small piece of leaf in the fan cage and made a whining noise. I reached in and got out by removing the filter and feeling around for it.

This noise seems to be coming from front passenger side of engine and actually makes a slight but noticeable click when spinning down ceases like something is turning off. Where is the area you are referring to and is it accessed from engine bay?

Cabin air filter is located behind the glove box and fan is in the area between engine and passenger area. If you are not familiar with changing the cabin air filter then take your car to dealer and get it changed and have them check the fan cage. You can reach into the fan cage when the cabin filter is out.

Will do on next service visit. Engaged AC today for few minutes and then shut down engine and no spinning down. Fairly convinced that it has something to do with compressor. This symptom can only be heard if you are outside the car standing near the hood when engine is shut down.
