  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have this spinning status icon on my infotainment screen for a couple of days or so. Can't seem to find anything in the proverbial FM. Any idea what it is?

I do believe that it means your device is syncing and trying to download content from your phone to sync with the display unit. If you connect with the cable it goes away, but if your prefer connecting via Bluetooth, it remains.

Hmmm.. what would it be syncing? Contacts are synced. Recent calls are synced. Messages are synced. I never used nor turned on Android Auto. I have no music on my phone.

I don’t know what it could be trying to sync, but I do know that whenever I see that symbol on my iPhone and on all the prev generations of the iPhones I had, it means it’s syncing. It doesn’t necessarily means that you haven’t already downloaded your contents, but whenever you plug your phone into your personal computer it’ll automatically sync via iTunes or Apple Music. Once you get into your vehicle it connects to the unit by either methods and in doing so, will start to sync. It’s making sure that if you’d added a new contact, music or new apps that it can be sync to the display unit.

You say you saw that symbol on your iPhone. Mine is on the GV70 infotainment screen. Connected Services are active and up to date. Only the HD Radio Info seems not to be available.

Do a google image search for "syncing symbol." That does seem to be the common use for the symbol in your picture, whether it is on a car screen, phone screen, PC screen, or whatever.

It’s gonna show on the screen because your phone is connected to it either by Bluetooth or the cable. What I do know 100% is that the spinning arrow(s) icon means Syncing. If you get in your car without your phone, you will not see that symbol

Well... whatever it was, the spinning icon is gone now. Incidentally the HD Radio Data is available. Nothing to do with my phone.

That icon is saying it is trying to update or download sat data. Like your weather and traffic.

Thanks. Yes, it looks like that was it. As I mentioned in my previous post the HD Radio Data (traffic, weather, gas stations) is now again available.
That seemed like the most likely reason for the symbol. Thought it was phone related, but I see it wasn’t. Glad the others on here helped you figure it out.

Just to add my adjusted for inflation .02c, your phone data sync's each time you restart the vehicle to download recently added/deleted contacts, call history, etc. It's doing a lot. It maybe shorter on subsequent starts, but the phone maintains a setting in the bluetooth connection that tells the car data has been changed or updated. If you look in the BT settings on your phone, you can select what actually sync's versus what doesn't... when the phone is connected by cable, the data rate for syncing is almost instantaneous if not faster...
