  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Question, has anyone experienced the following?
When in sports mode/gear does everyones car shift from 1st gear to 2nd on its own? My car shift roughtly about 5800 rpms.

Just wondering if anyone else has the experience?

Thx

Mine does the same.
I think this is by design as its a very quick shift between 1 & 2 and spreads out as you move up the gears.. I think this allows for a very efficient 6th gear ratio to help with fuel economy on the highway.

Where I find the car really shines is between 3 & 4 and 4 & 5. Great pick up in those shifts.

If you're talking about the SHIFTRONIC mode (move gear shifter to the right and shift gears up or down), then I believe it will definitely automatically shift up before redline and automatically shift down when it can't maintain the gear. It's not a truly manual mode.

Its a safety thing, so you don't over rev the engine. No big thing.

Yes, this is correct, it's not a true manual mode (most shiftronics are not). It will shift up and down automatically if you don't do it. Where I find this to be helpful is pulling off the freeway doing 70mph down an offramp and getting that car out of 6 and down to 4 to use some of the engine to stop the car, even though the brakes in this car are amazing. Otherwise, the manual mode, is really semi manual at best.

I find that if I roll slowly into an intersection and pause wait to make a left turn, the car sometimes seems to drop into a too-high gear so that when I finally step on the gas, it flounders for a few seconds. Kind of scary in traffic.

I have a habit of pushing the shift lever right before moving into the intersection. This locks the car in low. When I finally get to make my left turn, I just bat the lever left as soon as the car starts moving. That way I never get the scary pause in the intersection.

Try using 91+ octane gas for V8 owners. I am on my first tank of it and have noticed the throttle response and transmission shifting to be much smoother. The car also wants to get to a higher RPM quicker as well.

That's scary...haven't had that happen to me.

If I did, thankfully, I have an old habit...making sure I'm really conservative when turning left so I don't have to gun the car. Probably pisses off the people behind me, but I don't trust oncoming traffic. Maybe I'm too used to driving cars that don't accelerate as fast as the Genesis.
