  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been having an ongoing problem for the past two years. Happens once every four months or so. The car just dies. A couple of times 20 yards after a start from a stop sign. A few times just going down the road at 30 or 40 mph.

It's unnerving to say the least. But I've learned to throw it in neutral and restart. Always restarts on first try. Can't figure out why except maybe it has to do with a corner - most times I've just come around a corner - from a stop or just a sharp curve.

I found a reference to this in another internet forum but didn't see anything in this area.

Have all of your grounding points checked under the hood and in the trunk where the battery is. To me it sounds like a case of a shorted circuit, especially where you say it happens after a corner. My initial thought is the g-force from the corner is just enough force to break a circuit somewhere.

I actually had something similar happen to me on my Elantra after I installed an aftermarket ECU piggy back. Turned out to be a loose ground within the ECU harness (my fault).

I've had this happen maybe three or four times since I've owned my car, once within the past month, much to my surprise. In every case for me, it was turning into a parking lot, usually not going very fast, so no G-forces to speak of. But always on a hot day, with the A/C going. And it always starts back up and behaves perfectly, like nothing ever happened.
