  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Good evening everyone,

I'm quite new to this forum so I'll introduce my car and the issue I've been having and hopefully someone has some input to point me in the right direction.

This afternoon I went out to start my Genesis with my fob in my pocket and the car wouldnt unlock. I used the key to open the door and when I put my foot on the pedal to start the car nothing happened. No power to anything and the strange thing is that nothing was left on.

There was a red light blinking but nothing on the instrument panel, just that warning light for the alarm system.

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced this issue before, I know my step son's Jag has an electrical immobilizer that can be tripped on...I don't think that is the case with me though.

This car has been affected by a random check engine light that was fixed at the dealer as well as a radio system that was replaced after it just quit one day.

If anyone can direct me in my research into figuring this out I'd be ever so appreciated

Many thanks

Cheers

Ric

I think the battery in your FOB needs to be replaced. In the mean time just insert the fob into the FOB dock located just above the ashtray cover. This will complete the immobilizer circuitry which in turn will allow you to start the car.
Thats it.... good luck

1st step replace key fob battery

2nd step check that your yellow fuse in the driver side fuse panel is seated in properly.......the panel on the left of the dash when you open driver door.

3rd, ensure you have the rubber stop that contacts the hood/engine compartment for the alarm system. Some owners have reported this missing causing your symptoms.

Thank you everyone

I boosted the car with my wife's car and it seems to be fine.
I think car's constant scanning for the fob killed the battery, or that is my thought process on the issue.

Thank you all again for the help

Cheers,

Ric

I think car's constant scanning for the fob killed the battery, or that is my thought process on the issue.

Might be a good idea to check under the hood for the famous missing rubber pad on the driver's side. If it is missing it might explain the dead battery as it serves to shut down all electronics and arm the alarm system.

The car doesn't actively scan for the Keyfob....there is a proximity RFID reader in the car and the Keyfob "excites" the reader, thus activating the lock/ignition- like your EZ PASS.
