static from speakers on start-up

My wife car started making a static sound from the front spearkers today it almost sounds like touching two jumper cables together when u get that spark..... It only does to at start ups as soon as I press the start bottom it does it any ideas

It sounds like you have a bad connection to either the speaker(s) or the amplifier. It could be loose or there could be a bad ground somewhere.

If the car is out of warranty I would take it to either an auto electrical shop or a good shop specializing in auto stereos (not just one that does quickie installs) and have them isolate the problem.

Do one more thing before taking it in though. Try starting the car with your foot off the brake. The engine won't start. This is to see if the problem occurs when engaging the starter circuit or just the accessory circuits. It will be helpful to the shop.

Thanks landtuna for your input, took the car Fri, I called them today they said the amp was shorting out.... Say that should fix the whining sound too I've been complaining about for the last few months...having them tell me they can't find anything.
