  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Steering on Curves - Sticks

I made an apt and stated that on on-ramps and off-ramps is when in the turn, the steering wheel will feel locked up forcing me to give a yank to pull the steering out of its holding to stay within the lines. with and without lane keep assist on. Tech stated it was part of the lane keep assist and how the lines are but despite me saying the problem shows with lane keep assist on and off, they didn't test it with it off. plus lane keep assist shouldn't engage under 40 mph and majority of the time the green notification of that isn't lit up when I'm on the ramps. I even referenced the TSB number like in this post and showed him the attachment for reference. nothing.
Ima reengage later since it wasn't tested with lane keep assist off but this was my experience so far.

and unfortunately, i cannot take it to another dealership. the one i used to go too cannot take Genesis brands anymore and i must go to the designed Genesis dealer in town.

Really, really surprised after showing the TSB nothing was done. I thought that a TSB, HAD to be followed. Sounds like a call to GENESIS is in your future. Please keep at it. It is a safety issue.

Please call them like stated. My 2018 G80 had the same problem. I took it to my dealership and they fixed the problem.

Please call Genesis. I had the same problem with my 2018 g80. They checked it out and called Genesis of America and they fixed my problem.

Had the same exact issue on my 2016 Genesis AWD.
Dealership used every excuse they could to blame the issue on how I drove the car.
It was pretty bad and I really couldn’t take it back anymore. It was there like 6 times within 3 months.
The service manager wouldn’t let me make any appointments saying it was my issue.
I contacted Hyundai in California and they asked the service manager for his take on it.
Again, he blamed it on me.
I escalated the issue with corporate and actually sent them videos of what it was doing.
Got a call from them that they were sending a tech from California to look at the car.
Long story short, within 15 minutes he acknowledged the issue and told me, you’re not driving this car.
They replaced the steering motor and the steering rack, problem was fixed.
It took almost a year to fix.
Hyundai was willing to buy the car back or give me a few thousand for my troubles.
I took the money since the car was fixed.

I've owned my 2015 Genesis for 3 years. Over the past 6 months I'm having issues with my steering sticking when making turns. Most obvious when hwy driving at higher speeds. The wheel fails to return to the center position. If slightly turning right, it stays right, same with the left. Two dealerships and Hyundai Corporate are involved and no one can give me an answer. They say that I'm showing no codes with my power steering - tires are new Michelins - alignment is perfect. I'm beyond frustrated that no one's even making suggestions of things to check - the camber - tie rods - I just keep googling and hoping to come up with an answer. Any suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!
I had the same problem with my G80 but only to the right. Dealer replaced the rack and pinion and string box under warranty. I year later it happened again, but only with turns to the left. The dealership just replaced it all again. Twice in about a year??????

Just to weigh in. Our 2018 G80 began this steering issue about a month ago. Seems to be getting worse and plan to call dealer on Tuesday AM to get it fixed. Glad I know what the problem is.

it is more pronounced in a gradual turn but even straight down the highway is an almost constant adjustment to keep it straight. Makes for a very jerky ride. (lane assist is OFF!)

Make: 2018 G80 Technical Service Bulletin explaining your problem. Warranty fix.

after months and months, local dealership finally replaced the steering rack. genesis of usa scheduled me at a diff location, was supposed to have a loaner car but that wasn't relayed. i was also few mins later to Apt cause rain and traffic but didn't think to call cause i was getting a loaner anyways. got there and they had no loaners and said they filled my spot cause i was late. waited 3 weeks for that. they offered 0 help. finally walked into original location and met with the manager again and expressed my frustration, he got me in and got me a loaner car. after diagnosis, service tech said i can bring the loaner back, grab my car until the part is in.. then when i drove back to turn it in, he changed his mind and said this is a safety issue, i don't feel right putting you back in your car. like bruh, i been trying to tell everyone this for 3 years! i gotta fight the steering to not run into a guard rail.. or off the road of a windy road.. 2 days later, part came in, drove it normal route i do and yep, no sticking.
expressed my frustration of customer service to local dealership, and also genesis of USA.. told them I am already deterring people from buying genesis brand because local dealerships have horrible customer service. maybe when they have built their new facilities that is genesis branded but who knows.

in short- if anyone is having this issue of sticking, steering rack needs replaced. cost 4700, but replaced under warranty which expires in 2 months. going with third party warranty cause I can't pay the $5500 they want for genesis name. 250 a month for 2 years..

We have a 2016 Genesis having the exact same problem. We have replaced the shaft and steering column. $2500 later still no answers.

My 2018 G80 Sport has this issue also. It is currently at the dealer getting parts replaced to fix it. Here is a link to the Tech sheet from genesis addressing this issue, send it to your dealer and they should fix it.
Two different dealers( after complaining about this for years) swore up and down that it was the aftermarket wheels and tires. We printed up the tech sheet and showed them what the problem was. The car is no longer under warranty so Genesis offered us that they would pay 65%, leaving us to come out of pocket $2011.95. We feel since the car has had this problem since the beginning (bought off the showroom floor brand new) and we bought it to their attention while it was under warranty they should fix it at no cost to us. We are very angry about this and have decided Genesis is out of the running on our next purchase. It is currently at the dealer getting recall work done. We had a 10:30 appointment time for the recall work to be done and waited 4 hours until they told us they weren't going to get it done, and got us a loaner. One of the dealers is in Miami, and the other is Werner Genesis in Tallahassee. Service is not even in the ballpark of MB or BMW, that they keep claiming.

I have the 2017 G90 with only 43500 miles on it and the steering wheel sticks on curves as everyone here described. Is there a writeup? My dealer always denies there is a problem, they always tell me they never heard of it, and I want something to show them.
Is there anything on the G90 model to show a dealer that they are being intentionally misleading so they don't have to bother? i don't want to volunteer that I need a new steering rack, and I am hoping there are options other than that.
Thank you

Had the same issue, out of warranty. I took the easy way out and traded it in. Dealer did not drive the car so they did not know.

Thank you. I am not ready for that route. Hoping for a fix.

Does anyone have a good link for the genesis TSB or recall? I just picked up my 17 from a Texas dealer doing the recall and thermostat tsb (vehicle has extended warranty) and they said I needed a alignment but iv had one within the last 4k miles

Check this thread for the link: My 2018 G80 3.8L HTRAC steering is sticking. When I turn the steering wheel slight right, like through a 25mph curve, the wheel will stay in that position until, I pull it back to straight. Has anyone experienced this issue? Is this common with HTRAC? Looking for some input before I take it... Steering wheel sticking
