  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got my 2009 Sedan in Nov.2009 This past weekend I drove it in snow for the first time. Not a pleasant experience. I got stuck in snow twice. Snow was not that deep. My former car-Acura TL- would have negotiated snow easily. I just could not get traction. 18" wheels should have handled it easily. Could it be an inproper distrbution of weight design flaw? I wonder if this is a common complaint? Aside from this complaint I must admit I am enjoying the car more than any I have ever owned.

There are several discussions on this. There are basically two issues.

1st the Dunlop tires are horrible in snow...much worse than your typical all seasons.

2nd, cars with more weight over the drive tires (front wheel drives typically have 10-15% more weight over their drive wheels because the that is where the engine is) will have better traction and get stuck less. The Genesis sedan has 53/47 weight balance....about 10% lower weight on the drive wheels. The Acura TL is 60/40, 30% greater weight on the drive wheels.

The best solution is to put winter rubber on the Genesis. We have Michelin X-Ice2's on ours and it drives well in the snow with them. If winter tires aren't something you can deal with, there are much better all seasons available...for example Continental ExtremeContact DWS get high marks.

Secondly, adding weight to the back wheels will help the Genesis with traction.

There are several threads on tires in the "Wheels, Tires, Detailing and Appearance Modifications" forum.
