If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. my 3.8 2010 genesis sedan is great in every way, except the sound system....Can't seem to get the specs on it from anywhere or anyone? The sub woofer seems very very subdued and there seems to be no way to make it louder...
The treble is decent and mid range is decent but the bass is lacking....Anyone have any input that would help me on this???? Considering the sub woofer is 2 ohms, it should give a lot more sound........

I can not get that thread address to open......BUT if it is on the genesi forum, I have looked at everything related to sound and/or sub woofer and nothing covers what i need to know.........Where can i get info on the basic sound system and what could be wrong with this sub woofer that has to play louder and/or better than it does now.....The dealer is no help. any specific advice would really be appreciated.....I had a "sound guy (a pro) look and listen, and he said the woofer should play better than it does.

OK I SAW THAT THREAD --they are talking about the high end lexiccon unit----mine is the standard unit on the base car---BUT it sound like they are talking about mine anyway....no decent sound coming out of the sub woofer.....any suggestions other than replacing the amps and subwoofer..?

If you search for "Anemic Bass" there is a 9 page thread about the Lexicon System. It may provide you with useful information to answer your question.

I read all 9 pages and then i read it again...
All it tells me is that all three sound systems that are in the various genesis sedans have the same problem.....Weak sub woofers......It seems that we all get no help from the manufacturer or the dealer.......It seems that "we" will have to find a good "sound man" to change whatever amps and sub woofers at our own cost.....Sad but true......

I agree with your analysis of the bass performance. The system performs well down to about 60Hz at moderate volume levels but if you really want to crank it there is a lot of compression applied to the subwoofer channel so that the amplifiers don`t clip. For good full range sound at all volume levels, the system needs some help in the form of a better subwoofer.

I have added a dual 12 inch Kicker sub cabinet to my trunk powered by a 500 watt mono amp. The amp is tapped off of the factory subwoofer and I now have great response down to about 35Hz and when I crank it, the bottom end doesn`t disappear.

The compromise is that half of my trunk space is gone, but for me it`s a good compromise. :D

I agree with ya. I have a 12" Kicker L5 (Square) and a Alpine 500W mono amp, and it's wonderful now:cool:

My auto sound guy is going to add an amp for the sub woofer only---he feels that the sub woofer just doesnt have enough power to work right....It will be volume controlled and I will keep you posted in about 2 weeks.....I would never do a separate "kicker" again because they take up too much room.......stay tuned

Please let me know how it goes. I might be interested in removing my aftermarket sub and just hooking up a separate amp for the stock sub.

Do you know the specs of the factory sub? Impedance, handling RMS, etc.?

Why, how was it?
Did the volume barely go up, or did it distort at higher volume?
I think the stock sub is capable of much louder bass.

nobody, and i mean nobody seems to know what the actual specs of the factory stock sound system are....I only have 2 front door mounted speakers(no size or brand)
2 tweeters
2 rear speakers and 1 subwoofer
autonet (330 watt, Max)
That is the info i got off Hyundai dealers training online...
I will let you know in about 2 weeks if the added sub woofer amp does any good....

Dan,

I tried it only because I was curious to see how good or bad it was.
I connected my Orion amp directly to the factory sub and let her rip.

1st thing I noticed was how much power I had to REMOVE from my amp.
Played with the settings abit and continued testing away.

THIS IS MY OPINION ONLY:

The stock sub is EXTREMELY weak. It can BARELY handle any power to it.
The sub cannot handle much power...the bass is not deep at all. It really doesn't need much for over excursion.
I tested it for maybe 10 minutes and immediately went back and reconnect to my 12" Sub. That's how bad it is...

I also tried it because if it sounded good enough with the stock sub I wouldn't have to install my 12" sub in the trunk.

In case you're not aware. I'm the one that has NO SPARE in the trunk because I used that space for my 12" sub install. I need the room in the back and putting a box in the back is a no way for me...too much space lost.

I wish it was better.

Regards,

I really appreciate your feedback, QCTLG.
Wow, that's pretty disappointing. Not that I'm surprised to hear that though, since I saw how small the basket and magnets are on the stock sub.

I saw your custom installation. Nice work!
Have you thought about the option to replace the stock sub to a different 8" and custom install it on the stock location?
I know it won't be easy to fit an enclosure under the rear deck and all, but it would be interesting to see how it performs.

Dan,

Yes i did think about adding a very good quality 8" sub, but, now that my sub is installed and I've had it for about a year that way, I just don't feel like trying anything anymore.

PLUS...my 12" really kicks some major a$$ the way it's installed.
I wish I can make you hear it.

I've had my sub for over 10 years and it's a really good sub.
Believe me this sub has been getting MAJOR abused in the last 10 years.
Not worth trying anything else for me anyways.

Sincerest Regards,

It makes sense that you might as well use the gears you already have.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts.
I'm sure it sounds awesome, as my 10" with a tiny amp does a decent job in assisting the low bass performance.
