  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Not sure how many of you feel the same way, but this is my fourth Genesis (2011 HyundaI Genesis, 2013 Hyundai Genesis R-Spec, 2014 Hyundai Equus), and all of those vehicles had a much stronger sound system. I truly love my GV70, but I decided to add a bit of power to just the base by adding a JBL sub and JBL amp. I got a separate bass controller for the sub and turned the bass nearly all the way down on the speakers, and the difference is insane! The work was done by Car Toys, and it looks so nice and clean. The JL system is amazing, it adds a level of punch that I was not expecting. I had asked the shop to upgrade the speakers to focals, and after listening they said that the speakers were actually very good on this system, so I would have to pay nearly $6K to notice the difference. They built me a box specific for the car, and ran the installation beautifully.
Sub is the JL audio 10W6v3 and the amp is the JL XD600/1V2.

How much did you spend? Is there a line controller tapped in to the sub wire?

How much did you spend? Is there a line controller tapped in to the sub wire?
Travis, material was $2k, the box was $800, and labor about $500. I was thinking I’d spend about $5k on speakers, so in my mind I came out better by doing this. They had also recommended a standard box (not custom) for $200, and I could’ve done a smaller amp and sub for about $600 less. They didn’t “sell me” on any option, they just showed me the full array.
I have a sub knob in the front that I can control, because I listen to any kind of music, and bass response is very different from one to the other.

I'm still waiting on my GV70 to be delivered, but I am curious if anyone has looked into replacing the subwoofer drivers under the seats. I imagine the ability to replace those drivers are very small because of the shallow depth, but when the factory upgraded sound system in my Ford Explorer was lacking a bit of punch, I simply replaced the 8" Sony driver with an after-market shallow mount driver and the difference was enough I stopped messing with other upgrades. I'm curious of the GV70 might offer the same opportunity.

What size sub is that? And do you know if they used a line out converter for the amp?

Also did you have the Lexicon Sound System?

I went to a shop to have them look at installing a custom subwoofer enclosure in the GV70 and one shop quoted me $1800-2000 while another shop quoted me $3700. This is proving quite tricky and expensive.

Using the Lexicon Sound System, the bass output is almost good enough for my need... The one thing the bass output seems to lack is the sound stage (wide and deep)...

A well-priced solution is maybe adding the Rockford Fosgate P300-12 Sub Built-in Amp... Has anyone done this and what is your impression (installation difficult and bass results) ?

Bass is non-directional. Lower bass notes are omni-directional. So while a subwoofer may add to dynamics and depth, it has nothing to do with a sound stage.

The old saying, "there is no replacement for displacement" is true for a reason. The thin mounted subs in the GV70 are limited. And I am guessing they have electric filters to prevent distortion at high volumes because of the driver design. So any large box and high excursion driver will be an improvement

I agree completely. The rest of the system sounds great, but the subwoofers fall short of my expectations and don’t hit those low lows like I would expect a premium sound system to do. There are definitely people who’ve installed a subwoofer into their GV70s even with the Lexicon sound system. The hard part appears to be doing so in a way that doesn’t take up too much of the cargo space and doesn’t cost a fortune.

How do you access your Cargo Cover compartment?
The hinged access panel does not go edge to edge. Looking at the pic, the hinged part ends right about where the sun box is at. The corners of the compartment are covered by removable pieces that are separate from the hinged panel

I had this exact subwoofer installed. It sounds great and really adds that low-end bass the factory subs can't hit. The system overall sounds excellent and I'm very happy. I highly recommend that Rockford sub.

I had it professionally installed. They said it was pretty straight forward other than the remote sub control they installed in the front. I placed it on the left side, up against the seat. It takes up very little space.

Nice! Can you share any photos?

I went the easy route and love the result. Powered 12" Rockford Fosgate with built in 500W (300W RMS) amp and hi-lo line controller. Remote volume tontrol for the sub. Easy install (3 hours at the shop). Easily moveable/removeable. Cost less than $700 US OTD. Couldn't be happier. SubBox.webp

Looks great @TravisF. I'm sure that is a nice improvement for the stock system.

I'm still about one month away from taking delivery of the 2023 3.5 Sports Prestige I have coming and I'm still very interested in the in-floor LFE driver Genesis uses and if any improvements to that driver at that location can be made. In my Explorer I was able to replace the OEM shallow mount sub with an aftermarket and it made a noticeable improvement. Still nothing along the lines of adding a dedicated box and driver, with extra amp, but it was enough to make me happy.
