  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Two of us working for about 5 hours today successfully removed the rear bumper cover, unclipped the accent trim panels, and removed and replaced the cracked and peeling "chrome" inserts. We found a well done YouTube video on how to get the bumper cover off. To make life easier we jacked up the rear on stands and removed the rear tires to get access to the fasteners that are inside the wheel wells. Getting the cover off requires removing about 20 fasteners, a combination of 10mm bolts, screws and press-in fasteners. That part was time consuming but not all that difficult.

The painted accent panels that the chrome strips are attached to are connected to the bumper cover with screws and a whole bunch of clip-in tabs. The left and right panels have one screw on the wheel well end, and four screws where they connect to the center piece. The center piece has no screws, only tabs, and is held in place by the other two pieces overlapping with it. We removed the trim strips by flexing the tabs with a flat screwdriver and popping them out of their slots.

Once you have the trim panels off, on the backs you will see small Phillips screws that hold the chrome pieces to them. A LOT of screws. But simple enough to swap out the parts. Note that the replacement chrome pieces from Hyundai don't come with new screws so don't lose any as you take everything apart.

While we had the bumper cover off I took the opportunity to remove the metal exhaust tips and give them a good cleaning and polish. Getting the bumper cover back on is an adventure trying to get everything lined up properly but we got there in the end. I paid $150 including shipping for all three chrome strips from oemhyundaiparts.com and supplied the labor for free and now our car is back to looking almost like new.

I've noticed, I guess because of the age of our Gennie's, that Hyundai parts for the 2009-2014 cars have become much cheaper, and there is almost a glut of salvage parts out there on eBay and other parts marketplaces. If I could only find a deal on genuine Hyundai replacement leather seat covers in cashmere to fix my splitting front seats.
