  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I own a 2009 Genesis 3.8 with approximately 52,000 miles. During a morning drive I noticed that the car was accelerating on its own. The acceleration seemed gradual, as if the cruise control was engaging. (I never use cruise control, however, I did reassure myself that the cruise control was off.)

On some country roads near my home, I would remove my foot from the accelerator completely and feel the car accelerate until I applied the brake.

When I pulled into my drive and placed the car in park, the engine revved until I turned the car off.

I inspected the floor mat to make sure it was not interfering with the accelerator. The accelerator itself was not sticking.

Has anyone experienced this phenomenon with a Genesis? I haven't seen anything in the press.

I will take the car out later this morning and see if it the acceleration recurs.

Charles

Are you sure there is not a Toyota symbol on the front of your car?

All kidding aside, I would take the car down to the dealer asap and get it checked out. Do you know how to shut your car off in the case it does accelerate and doesn't stop?

I believe you need to press and hold the start button for like 3 to 5 seconds. I've never tried, but then again, I've never had unintended acceleration symptoms.

Thanks. Yeah, it sounds like Toyota. I plan to take the car in Tuesday, otherwise I love my Genesis.

The V6 especially will accelerate on even a slight road decline with no foot on the gas. It acts almost like a manual transmission in neutral, except that the RPM's speed up a little as the car accelerates. In some cases when going down a slight decline the transmission will upshift and the car starts going noticeably faster (if not already in top gear). This is great for gas mileage, but almost caused me to get a speeding ticket one time.

Not sure about the revving in neutral. This should not happen if the engine is warmed up, but will definitely happen at startup when engine is cold.

I have a 2013 Genesis 3.8 Sedan (50000 miles) and experienced the same problem 3 - 4 times the last 2 years. The problem will go away after turning off and restarting the car. I managed to recorded the problem (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usFe3ZjWs-c) and brought it to the dealer. Luckily they were able to reproduced the problem the very next day and replaced the throttle (they consulted the Hyundai Tech Support ). I picked up the car and problem came back couple days later and now they have the car in the garage for a over week and still can't reproduce the problem. I have no option but to wait until the next instance and hope I can live to record and tell the truth.

Don't buy Hyundai!!!!!!!

Why would you not live? Every car I ever owned has a Neutral position on the shifter. Use it. Won't fix the problem but prevents acceleration. That should be made part of the test for a driver's license.

Thanks for this information. We have the same problem and the same car. It seem to happen when the cars in the sun and it’s warm out. My dealer has had my car almost 2 weeks, they can’t recreate the problem. We were down South when it happened, we live in New England and it’s been quit cool here. I think the heat has something to do with it. Do you live where it’s warmer?

Yes, had this sudden acceleration issue with a 2015 Genesis. Sent me crashing into 2 of my other vehicles in my driveway. Lucky to be alive. Hyundai claims no issue found.

I own a 2010 Genesis 4.2 Liter sedan and it'd done this three times. I filed a report with Hyundai and requested they tow my car to the nearest Hyundai dealer and pay to fix it. They DECLINED my request and said since" there was no accident or injuries" they're not responsible. I guess my wife can apply again if I'm killed driving the vehicle. HYUNDAI SUCKS!

Hyundai has refused to help me with this problem. Apparently, someone must die or be injured before they'll help. This has happened 3 times. The car FLOORS ITSELF. From on line research, Hyundai knows about this problem but they don't care about the safety of their customers. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER HYUNDAI.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this dangerous malfunction?

Please share your research (links to the sites saying this would be great).
Every now and then someone will make this claim (about just about any car/brand), but no one ever presents any proof.

Trade it in for something else. Don't get an Audi though, they had a similar issue a while back.

Don't forget Toyota. Did they have the slogan - "There's no stopping us now?"

I would have to tell whoever buys it about the unintended acceleration. I could not, in good conscience not tell them. Probably get 200.

Here's one link, unfortunately not my model, but it proves Hyundai is aware of the problem.

I live in Ruidoso, NM, so the nearest Hyundai Dealer is 70 miles away in Roswell. My Hyundai Customer Service Rep initially told me Hyundai would pay for the tow, then she said they wouldn't. Next she told me Hyundai would send a "qualified inspector" to my home to examine the car, then she said they wouldn't. It's extremely frustrating dealing with a company that lies and obviously doesn't care about the safety of their customers.

Not only not your model, but any entirely different kind of car with an electric drive motor. You don't even have those parts to have that kind of a problem. (I'm not saying you aren't having some issue, but that this does not at all support your cause because it is impossible for that to be happening with your car.)

Had this car for 14 years with few problems. It currently has 90k miles and I planned to drive it at least five more years.

In the last few months, it has accelerated (full throttle) entirely on it's own three times. After on line research, the problem is called "unintended acceleration". First time I thought it was just a one time thing, then it happened twice in three days.

I took it up with Hyundai consumer affairs and they were not helpful. Took it to the Hyundai dealership and they said, after numerous test drives, that they could not replicate the problem and therefore could not fix anything.

Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what causes this or how to fix it?

I understand your point but why would anyone "make up" that they're having this problem? Do you work for Hyundai?

So you seem to think this can't happen and people are just making it up? Are you a cover up guy for Hyundai? NCSA Publications & Data Requests. It happens quite often.
