  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 2021 GV80 Prestige. It started last month with losing power suddenly. It won’t accelerate and would be at loss of power arbitrarily. I checked with dealer and NHTSA but there is no recall for my car. It is with a local dealership for the last 15 days. They haven’t been able to diagnose the vehicle. They are firm that there’s no recall but still can’t figure out what’s wrong with the car. Anyone has any suggestions for me?

There was a recall on the low pressure fuel pump. That would cause loss of poweer. Was that already done?

No recall on my car. I checked with the dealership and Genesis. But looks like it's the same issue. All I hear from the dealership is that they are trying to diagnose the problem. Even after 15 days.

Not a suggestion but a question: was the dealership able to replicate the problem?

Yes, it looks like. For all the discussions around the fuel pump, it seems an intercooler issue. Anyone has any opinion on that? Do I trust the dealership or take it somewhere else?

That is impossible to answer as you don't identify the dealership. Some are superb and trustworthy. Some....enough said. If you tell us which dealership it is, there might be some here who have experience with that dealership...good or bad.

But I do think you need to stay with a dealership. It is likely that Genesis corporate will need to be involved and that works best, if not at all, when a dealership works with the manufacturer. Whether you have another choice, again we can't tell as you also don't tell us where you are (e.g,, in greater Phoenix there are three Genesis dealerships) and therefore whether there are multiple options available.

Hi, thanks for your detailed response.

I am in Charlotte NC and the car is at Genesis of Charlotte. I was avoiding the name because I didn't get best of the experience there. But there you go. I don't plan to go there ever again.

Genesis Corporate is involved and I am talking to a case manager regarding my car regularly.

My question now is ..can an intercooler really stifle the engine of its power?

If it is clogged, sure. Internal combustion engines use fuel and air to create spark. If either is constrained, so is performance.

A single bad experience can be attributable to a staffer having a bad day. But repeated bad experiences mean a bad dealership. In addition to Genesis of Charlotte, there appears to be several others in the general area so you may have some choices. Perhaps some of our Charlotte area members can chime in on their varying experiences.

...
Or, if the intercooler coolant has leaked out (radiator puncture), as has been related on this forum.
