  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I realize this is probably pretty lame, but does anyone have an idea where I can get a properly fitted front sunshade? I have tried the various generic shades available but they are all too large or small. A buddy has one in his benz that was obviously made for the car.
Anyone know where I could have one made or if there is a Genesis specific version available?

thanks

Some custom shades: http://shop.ebay.com/items/?_nkw=genesis+sunshade

I use a generic platinum magic jumbo sunshade (available at Wal-Mart). It doesn't fit perfectly, but the hoop design will fit around the mirror, doesn't look bad when you put the silver side out, and folds small enough to put in the driver's door pocket.

If you need a Sunshade, you must park in direct sunshine a lot, and yes, although it takes a few seconds to set up the sunshade, it is probably well worth it to you.
I am a believer of just using a DashMat, as it protects the dash and is always there, not taking up any time to set up, and also in use when driving.

In addition, assuming you park in direct sunshine a lot, protect your headlight lenses. The sunshine causes the plastic headlight lenses to "cloud over". Living mostly in (hot and sunny) Central Florida, I wax my plastic headlight lenses often to help protect from the UV rays. I also tend to park with the rear of the car toward the sun when parking outside. (Must be working pritty good, as my Continenetal still has clear lenses).

And for the love of God, no windex or rain-x on those headlight lenses, please! Plexus, is a plastic cleaner, once you use it, you will wonder how you lived without it. Yes it's also for you other toys, Flat Screen TV, Iphone and computer screens.

a dashmat also comes in handy to eliminate the reflected glare from the a/c vents.

when bright reflection occurs i insert an old envelope or piece of cardboard between the mat and the dash over top of the vents to shield the vents from the sun.

I got mine from Amazon. It's made for the genesis and is very nice. Also not bad price.

So where can you buy it by the can rather than the case?

Many Motorcycle Dealers (and aftermarket repair shops) sell Plexus. Great stuff. Larger Honda (Motorcycle) Dealers sell it because the GoldWing crowd uses it to clean the windshields of their bikes.

Be truthfull with you, I had not thought about Plexus, as I've been using ICE by Turtle Wax, but Plexus is even better, and I think I have a can of it in my shed somewhere. Will check it out.

Really enjoy this blog. Am eagerly awaiting delivery of my sunshade. It can get a little toasty in S.C. with the car parked outside during the workweek. I am going to run down the plexusplasticcleaner tip. Sure could have used the product with other vehicles, such as my 1998 towncar (217K), that I am hanging on to as my utility vehicle. Thanks all.

Good idea with the Town Car. You need a beater. I have a 1995 LS 400 that has 125k, it's in good shape but I don't really care if someone scratches it, and if I'm going to Ozzfest, I aint taking the Genesis.

For the last couple of cars I've had I go to WalMart and buy a $5.95 silver large folding screen, bring it home lay it out flat on the outside of the window and mark it up to the window outline. Then I take it to an elderly lady in the area who removes the edging, cuts it to the outline and restiches the edging back on. They always fit perfectly and last about 4 years with daily use. She only charges $5 but I give her $10 since it is well worth it! Probably one of the better investments I've made for the Genny!!!

It's hard to extol the virtues of Plexus justly. It does things that other cleaners can't do on plastic moldings, sunglasses, headlights, etc. If you have used Rain-X and driven on the freeway at 60mph during a downpour, and been mystified at no longer needing to turn on your wipers, you know what I mean.

I used to own a light aircraft I installed a new windshield on. Plexus was the only thing I would touch it with, and then only with special tissue-like cloths specially made for aircraft windows. Anything else would leave light scratches. Plexus was the only product the manufacturer would support.

I've never tried the stuff on my headlights, but it seems like a good idea now that you mention it. I really want to delay the hazing that comes with age...
