Swapping Navigation / Head Units between cars (current in-car unit is bricked)

I already swap the SD format and I download the 5th Gen updating and it's not updating the system.

not sure, but do you need the USB drive to make new memory card work? At some point, I remember buying a USB thumb drive also with the 32gb SD card. Sorry, it's been a while since I did this.
