  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've done some searching, and there are plenty of people who have swapped their 09-11 suspension out for 12+ suspension.

However, has any removed their R-Spec's OEM struts and springs in favor for non R-Spec 4.6 or 5.0 parts?

My '12 R-Spec rides a little rough for my liking, and since the car isn't exactly an autocross machine anyway, I figure I might as well retain the R-Spec look while enjoying a smoother ride in my DD.

Suggest you check your tire pressure. You may well like 30psi for a bit softer ride.

Then, check with your friendly Hyundai parts department to determine the part number model differences in the parts you wish to replace.

Anyone who swapped out their 2009-2011 suspension for a 2012+ R-Spec suspension wasted their money, with the exception of the rear stabilizer bar (about $125). The 2012+ R-Spec retained the stiffness of the 2009-2011 when the 2012 (non R-Spec) went soft.

If you want to change out your R-Spec suspension for the softer 2012 non R-Spec suspension, it might work (or might cause some unforeseen issues), but I would first suggest getting the softest and smoothest riding tires possible before I did that. Having the R-Spec 19" wheels with low profile tires doesn't help either.

The 19" R-Spec wheels have been easy to sell on this forum in the past, and getting 18" wheels with appropriate aspect ratio will make a big difference (but look at Tirerack.com customer reviews to choose the smoothest riding tires you can find).

If you want to change over to a 2011 suspension, I can help. I have a '11 3.8 sedan and replaced my suspension with one from the R-Spec. I have everything you need (shocks/springs/sways) in a box in my garage. If you want it, it's your's for whatever it'll cost for shipping. I put up a for sale post ages ago, with no takers. I'd rather it go to someone who will use it rather than into the trash. Just let me know.

The R-Spec is 200 lbs heavier on the front end than a 3.8 and the front struts/springs are different to reflect that.

I've driven both, and I have to say you will probably not like the base suspension.

I have a 5.0 non-R-Spec and it is much more bouncy than the R-Spec. It is absolutely not more comfortable.

I'll be swapping my suspension out for brand-new R-Spec struts and springs later this year. I'll sell you my springs and struts if you'd like them.

i have a 2013 rspec with the stock 19' rims, if you live somewhere where the road is bad with lots of bumps and potholes, the rides not going to comfortable unless you grab a g80 with air suspension. all small bumps shake the car and translate to the steering wheel. I know theres rigidity collars available, and other ways to make the ride better, but is there anyone who drives one of these in an area with bad roads? What did you change to make the ride more comfortable???
