  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Car was sitting for about 10 days, started it yesterday and drove about 20 minutes. Tried starting today, battery was low 11.8V, I charged it to 12.7, now getting System Check flashing in the display and won't start. I haven't found anything searching yet, and nothing in the owners manual. I disconnected the negative battery terminal, replaced it, left it for 10 minutes, reconnected it and all good now. The alternator was charging the battery like 14.4 volts so I know its charging. Something is drawing power when its off. I cleaned the negative terminal, and the battery is only 6 months old, I didn't want to fool with the positive terminal but its seems tight. I've read the posts about the positive terminal and how to modify it. If anybody has any ideas, I'd appreciate it.

It could be a bad rectifer circuit in the alternator that pulls power from the battery when the car sit overnight. However, it could be bad cell in the battery that prevents it from holding a charge. A new battery can get a bad cell if the battery if allowed to go below 10volts(fully discharged); even one time.

A lot of factors can cause a battery voltage leakage issue.

Thank you, I have to bring it to the dealer for 2 recalls, #201 & #965. I'll have them check things out. I think it was drawing too much power, A/C, ventilated seats, wipers & headlights on. In the meantime, I'm going to keep it on a trickle charger overnight.
