  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Edmund shows 7-8k first year depreciation which is reasonable but numbers yahoo auto coming with is quite insane.(unless you don't want to bother to check the link it is 14k on the first year)
Is yahoo pulling their numbers out of their ___?
Also I pay $600-$700 year on comprehensive/collision car insurance. I find $1500 a year on insurance figure quite hard to comprehend.

I don't know about depreciation, but regarding insurance, you cannot compare one owner's insurance with another owner. There are too many variables, such as age, sex, marital status, driving record, zip code, etc, etc. That number may be an average. There was an insurance cost thread on this forum at least a year ago, and some people do pay about $1500 per year, although mine is closer to yours (actually lower for my V6).

If you want to know what your car is worth, take it to a CarMax and get a quote. This will be the wholesale price, which is usually a little better than you can get on a dealer trade-in when buying a new car (partially because you get a sales tax break on your new car when you trade in your old car, and the dealer knows this).

The figures can only be approx. Finance percent rate will differ as will insurance. Also the type of driving and where you live will change the cost. And they are those of us that do not finance. I drive a lot of highway miles in the south which can equal lower maintence cost, ie more miles out of tires and brakes, also higher average MPG. The numbers are a starting point but each buyer should run their own numbers for his/her budget.
